Halle Berry responds after ex Olivier Martinez claims she physically attacked their 12-year-old son
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Halle Berry has responded to allegations made by her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez, involving their 12-year-old son, Maceo.
The response came after Martinez filed for a temporary restraining order against the '[X-Men]' actress, alleging that she attacked their son. A judge later granted the temporary restraining order. Berry's attorney, Marina Beck, pushed back against the allegations, calling Martinez's filing “entirely meritless and deliberately misleading.”
Halle Berry responds to Olivier Martinez's allegations
According to court documents obtained by Page Six, Berry’s attorney pointed to what she described as a long history of legal disputes between the former couple.
“There is voluminous evidence, including numerous judicial rulings, that Olivier Martinez repeatedly violated court orders and interfered with necessary therapeutic and educational interventions to the detriment of his and Halle Berry’s minor son Maceo - misconduct for which Mr Martinez has already been legally sanctioned.”
The statement went on to address Martinez's latest filing, saying, “In a way, today’s filing is not entirely unexpected from an individual with a well-documented history of possessive behaviour.”
Berry's attorney added that the actress remains focused on their son despite the ongoing legal dispute.
“Fortunately, Halle is used to this kind of outrageous conduct from Mr Martinez and, while she is deeply saddened, she will not allow it to deter her from fighting for Maceo’s best interests and providing him with the love and support he needs.”
What Olivier Martinez claimed about Halle Berry
Court documents obtained by PEOPLE show that Martinez is seeking sole custody of his and Berry's 12-year-old son.
The French actor filed for a temporary restraining order after accusing Berry of causing him “emotional and mental distress” and alleging that she attacked their son.
“The situation escalated and Petitioner jumped on our son,” Martinez alleged in the documents.
The order also changed when Berry can see Maceo. She can now visit him on Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 8 pm.
According to PEOPLE, the order will remain in effect until a hearing later this month, when a judge is expected to consider whether the order should remain in place.
Martinez's attorney, Patrick Baghdaserians, said his client's “paramount concern is the health, welfare” of Maceo.
Baghdaserians described Martinez as “a loving parent” who has “tried to do the best he can. Obviously, it’s always difficult when you’re in a co-parenting relationship. Our paramount concern right now is only one real issue, and that’s protecting this great kid.”
The latest filing comes amid the former couple's ongoing legal dispute over their son.
