WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign sent out a fundraising email on Monday, August 12, as billionaire Elon Musk interviewed former President Donald Trump and informed supporters that it needed money to 'respond to their lies'.

The interview, which had more than 1.2 million X users tuning in, was labeled as a 'conversation' or a 'chat'.

During the interview, Trump and Musk talked about various topics such as immigration, foreign policy, inflation, government spending, and energy issues, according to the New York Post.

The fundraising email read, "Right now, Elon Musk is interviewing Donald Trump live on Twitter (we’re not calling it ‘X’)."

The email also asked supporters to 'chip in $25 now' and accused Musk of attempting to take 'control' of 'our democracy' by hosting Trump for an interview on X.

The email added, "He’s using his purchased platform –— one of the largest social media sites in the world — to spread Trump’s unhinged and hateful agenda to millions of users."

The email concluded, "Musk already ruined Twitter by allowing hate speech and disinformation to flood the platform. Now, Musk is using his vast fortune and broad reach to try to control our democracy."

The Harris-Walz campaign also released a separate statement after Trump’s interview and argued that the conversation was 'unhinged'. Campaign spokesperson Joseph Costello said, "Donald Trump’s extremism and dangerous Project 2025 agenda is a feature not a glitch of his campaign, which was on full display for those unlucky enough to listen in tonight during whatever that was on X.com."

He added, "Trump’s entire campaign is in service of people like Elon Musk and himself — self-obsessed rich guys who will sell out the middle class and who cannot run a livestream in the year 2024."

During the interview, Trump also talked about rising inflation under the Biden administration and said, "If you’re just a middle-income person, you can’t afford it."

He said, "You know, four years ago, five years ago, people were saving a lot of money. Today, they’re using all that money and borrowing money just to live. It’s a horrible thing that is happening."
