Hasan Piker eyes a place on AOCs 2028 team, but his controversial past is drawing attention

WASHINGTON, DC: Political commentator and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who was seen in the campaign of Michigan Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, is eyeing a place on another Democrat’s campaign team in 2028.

Democratic leader Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), representing New York's 14th congressional district, is eyeing a 2028 presidential bid, and the controversial streamer wants to assist her in her election campaign.

Piker’s remarks regarding US foreign policy, Israel, Chinese leader Mao Zedong, and the 9/11 attacks have drawn immense criticism.

Hasan Piker 'absolutely' wants to join AOC

Appearing on the latest episode of ‘The Axios Show’, Hasan Piker told the outlet that he "absolutely" wants to campaign for New York Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez if she runs for president in 2028. 

Piker also revealed that he had a conversation with AOC and her team.

Notably, Piker wants to continue to play campaign surrogate in 2028, as he has already played this role for a new generation of left-wing candidates this year.

In an hour-long interview, Piker explained his views on several issues, given that some Democrats have been distancing themselves from him, fearing the impact on political engagement.

Hasan Piker praises China's system of governance

Hasan Piker, who traveled to China last year, said that China is run by the closest form of government that he would like to see adopted in the US.

He also expressed concern for America’s future generation, saying, "trajectory-wise, I worry that a Chinese child might have better conditions in the next decade or next two decades than an American one. And I think that should worry every American citizen."

When asked about his past praise of Mao Zedong, a controversial communist and authoritarian leader of China, Piker said, "He's a great man of history. Of course, there were a lot of excesses."

Explaining his use of “excesses” in the statement, he said, "Deaths borne out of mismanagement and famine."

Mao’s communist policies and authoritarian rule led to mass human suffering and tens of millions of deaths.

Hasan Piker and Abdul El-Sayed's ties

Abdul El-Sayed campaigned with Piker during the Senate Primary.

Piker, who has millions of followers online, previously told the outlet that he believed America's long history of attacks in the Middle East that have killed civilians made it worse than al-Q***a "pound for pound.”

After this statement, El-Sayed distanced himself from Piker, saying he disagreed with the streamer and that Piker didn’t speak for his campaign.

El-Sayed has said Piker won't appear with him in the final weeks of the race before the November 3 election.
