NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On April 13 episode, Chris Hayes strongly criticized Mike Johnson and Donald Trump's press conference on "election integrity" on his show 'All In With Chris Hayes'.

Hayes dismissed it as a ploy to sanitize the "Big Lie" and the events of January 6 into something more acceptable.

Chris Hayes condemns GOP's misuse of 'election integrity' to promote false claims

As per Hayes, the fixation on the 2020 election within the Republican Party has reached a fever pitch, culminating in high-profile gatherings aimed at perpetuating baseless claims of election fraud.

He said, "As we approach the 2024 election, Republicans are obsessed with the 2020 election".

He added, "Donald Trump's big lie of a stolen election has become the ideological tentpole of today's Republican Party, which is why, just this afternoon, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson made the pilgrimage down to Mar-a-Lago to hold a so-called Election Integrity Summit with the ex-president."

"Donald Trump's big lie of a stolen election has become the ideological tentpole of today's Republican Party", said Chris Hayes(@msnbc/Youtube)

Hayes then noted that despite its seemingly innocuous facade, the notion of "election integrity" has been co-opted by Republicans to advance the false narrative of widespread voter fraud.

"Now, election integrity might seem like an innocuous enough phrase. Surely, everyone wants our elections to be carried out properly. For Republicans, they have applied the concept in a really insidious way. When I say election integrity, it really just means that big lie", he said, adding, "And, there's a reason for that. What many of them actually believe about that election sounds nuts."

Chris Hayes noted that some Republicans are struggling with the cognitive dissonance of acknowledging the truth about the 2020 election (@msnbc/Youtube)

"At the same time, Republicans are kind of caught in a bind because they can't say the truth that the election was not stolen from Donald Trump, that 7 million more Americans chose Joe Biden over Trump because Trump was a bad president and a bad person, who a majority of Americans rejected twice", Hayes further mentioned, exacerbating political polarization and deepening divisions within society

Hayes observed that while some Republicans grapple with the cognitive dissonance of acknowledging the truth about the 2020 election, others continue to perpetuate falsehoods in a desperate bid to cling to power..

In that light, he said, "So, that brings us to the slightly more respectable version of the stolen election conspiracy, what I like to call the gentleman's big lie. You are probably familiar with it. We've been hearing it since the last election".

Social media react strongly to Hayes' analysis of election integrity

Netizens were actively engaged in the unfolding events, flooding social media with their reactions after Hayes' take on 'election integrity'.

One person supported Hayes, saying, "What we don’t need is Speaker Mike Johnson telling us what We, the American People want. We want what we want, not what Johnson says we want".

Another noted, "No presidential debate with him unless he publicly acknowledges that he lost in 2020!".

Another echoed a similar sentiment saying, "The GOP is so gross. Have they no shame?!".

"And the republicans should be held accountable for their actions in creating this situation. They should be prosecuted for their actions and criminal behavior and not doing their jobs!" another viewer wrote angrily.

"Every other country is laughing at us because one party can’t accept the fact they lost," one viewer pointed out.
