WASHINGTON, DC: GOP Sen Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) vowed to pursue Anthony Fauci through Alabama's legal system after the former federal official testified on Capitol Hill, calling for him to face prison over his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tuberville sharply escalated his long-running criticism during a Newsmax appearance Wednesday, July 29, following Fauci's hours-long testimony.

He also tied that pledge to his prospective run for Alabama governor, saying he would look for ways to bring legal action against Fauci in the state.

GOP senator demands Anthony Fauci face prison

Tuberville called Fauci's Capitol Hill appearance "embarrassing" and argued the former official had relied on "the so-called pardon that Joe Biden gave him."

"I sat and listened to Dr Fauci lie one after another, and we all believed him at first," Tuberville said, referring to his time on the Senate Health Committee.

He accused Fauci of funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab and claimed, without presenting evidence during the interview, that the virus "was released from the Wuhan lab."

Tuberville went on to allege that the pandemic "killed millions of people" and declared, "He should be locked up before he leaves this building today and put in prison, and then put on trial in front of the American people."

He also said Alabama had lost "20 to 30,000 people" during the pandemic and added, "I hope every one of them sues this Dr Fauci, puts him in court."

Senator links pledge to Alabama governor bid

Tuberville did not stop at criticizing Fauci's congressional testimony. He said a future role as Alabama governor could allow him to explore legal options against the former federal health official.

"I promise you one thing: we will find out if there's a possibility that we can bring him to Alabama, to put him in front of a court and a jury, to see if we can put this guy in prison," Tuberville said.

Repeating his central accusation, he added, "He killed millions of people, folks. I mean, this was a catastrophe."

The Republican senator also accused Fauci of misleading President Donald Trump during the pandemic, saying, "The vaccine, the death, the lies that he gave to President Trump."

Senator accuses Anthony Fauci of lying

Tuberville continued by claiming Fauci later operated with little oversight under President Joe Biden, saying, "Biden didn't know what day it was. And so he was free to just run loose across this country and just lie when the truth he knew was totally different than what he was telling."

His remarks marked a shift from congressional criticism to a public pledge that, if he becomes Alabama's governor, he would seek to determine whether Fauci could be brought before an Alabama court to face criminal proceedings.
