WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump is facing people’s wrath online after he launched attacks on Special Counsel Jack Smith and former Rep Liz Cheney in a Truth Social post.

The 77-year-old front-runner for the GOP nomination did not fully address a specific claim in the post but called Cheney an “American disaster” and said she suffers from “TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome)".

“Why did American Disaster Liz Cheney, who suffers from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome), and was defeated for Congress by the largest margin for a sitting Congressman or Congresswoman in the history of our Country, ILLEGALLY DELETE & DESTROY most of the evidence, and related items, from the January 6th Committee of Political Thugs and Misfits,” the real estate mogul stated.

Trump also accused Cheney of deleting evidence of a long-debunked claim that he offered to provide 10,000 soldiers to defend the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

"THIS ACT OF EXTREME SABOTAGE MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY LAWYERS TO PROPERLY PREPARE FOR, AND PRESENT, A PROPER DEFENSE OF THEIR CLIENT, ME,” the former president said.

“All of the information on Crazy Nancy Pelosi turning down 10,000 soldiers that I offered to guard the Capitol Building, and beyond is gone,” he added.

The Washington Post claims that the 45th president has made this assertion before and that it has been refuted twice. Trump "never requested 10,000 National Guard troops to secure the Capitol that day," the Washington Post reports.

Why did Trump attack Jack Smith?

In the long post, Trump also attacked Smith after the special council rebuffed his previous claim that he should have received immunity in the case over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

"The ridiculous Deranged Jack Smith case on Immunity, which the most respected legal minds in the Country say I am fully entitled to, is now completely compromised and should be thrown out and terminated, JUST LIKE THE RADICAL LEFT LUNATICS DID TO THE EVIDENCE!” the former president asserted.

The commentary comes after a federal appeals court's decision to grant a group of US Capitol Police officers' case against Trump permission to proceed, concluding that the president does not have total immunity from civil litigation.

The suit focuses on Trump's alleged conduct surrounding the Jan 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol.

The judgment of the three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit was based on a December verdict in a different case filed by two Capitol Police officers and a group of House Democrats, according to CBS News.

Internet reacts to Trump’s remarks

Trump’s post has garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming him for taking shots at Cheney and Smith. “His media circus is on display. It will mean nothing in court,” one user mocked.

“Every time I think he could not be more panicked, he proves me wrong,” the second user trolled. “I still can’t believe people actually voted for that and will line up to vote for it again. It’s truly beyond me,” the third user blasted.

“We know it all not true. I just sit and read them and laugh. I can I am in Australia watching this unfold. I am also saddened for the people directly affected,” the fourth user slammed.

“As a trained therapist, this is what we would call manic speech. Increasingly escalated, fabricated, symptomatic of a disintegrating illusion, collapsing under the increasing pressure,” the fifth user wrote while another one said, “This makes him that much more dangerous. Holy shit he needs to be locked up.”
