NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former Representative Liz Cheney found herself in hot water as she urged Fox News viewers to not vote for Donald Trump after rejecting claims that she has shown a double standard in her critiques of Former President and President Joe Biden.

The former Wyoming congresswoman was in an interview with Fox anchor Bret Baier on ‘Special Report’ on Monday, December 18 when she claimed that viewers should vote for “candidates who will abide by the Constitution.”

“What I would say to Fox viewers, and I worked here for many years as you know,” she said, adding “The race today presents a number of candidates who will abide by the Constitution.”

“You can have the policies that we all want, some of which Donald Trump put into place, some of which he didn’t. We can have conservative policies without having to torch the Constitution,” Cheney then stated.

Baier followed by questioning Cheney about why her message for Republicans to reject Trump had "not been getting across" to more GOP voters, pointing out that public polling showed the former president leading by double digits.

“I would urge people watching today who are going to be voting in those caucuses and those primaries, vote for somebody else. Do not vote for the person who already tried to seize power,” she reiterated, as per the Hill.

Liz Cheney claims there is no double standards in her criticism

At one point, Baier highlighted, citing a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed, that the paper, which is also owned by Fox News' parent company, is not often steadfast to Trump, but that Biden has done exactly what detractors have warned Trump will do if he returns to the White House.

Baier outlined many areas where Biden or his administration have been chastised for potential overreach, including student loan eradication, COVID orders, vaccine mandates, and domestic energy production restrictions.

Cheney disagreed she has not been vocal on such issues, specifically citing the energy front, which is an important issue in Wyoming, as per the NY Post.

“I think that’s a very different thing,” she cut in, noting “I think a lot of those if you look at the kinds of things that he’s done with respect, for example, to energy policy, with respect to setting aside lands across the West: I’ve been very vocal that I think those policies are wrong.”

“It’s very different from a president [like Trump],” she added, citing former President George Washington's promise of a peaceful transition of power when he willingly stood down after two terms in 1797, despite tremendous public support.

“Donald Trump tried to seize power. So we can disagree with Biden's policies, but the fact that he tried to seize power [and] ignored the rulings of 61 courts… [and counsels who told him] what he was saying about the election was false,” she said.

Internet reacts to Liz Cheney’s remarks

After Liz Cheney’s remarks surfaced on the internet, many users slammed her for asking Fox viewers to not vote for Trump and saying there is no double standards in her criticism.

“Sit down Liz Cheney! You are not helping at all!” one user said. “No, you have not. And why are people still listening to an unemployed politician,” a second user trolled.

“Liz Cheney has an agenda that is NOT in the best interests of America. That alone weighs heavy until properly addressed,” the third user slammed.

“She’s on the wrong side of history and staying there,” the fourth user blasted while the fifth stated, “She’s such a DemocRAT liar.”

“You’re a liar @Liz_Cheney and a disgrace,” one more wrote. “If anyone is dangerous it’s Liz Cheney!” another one said.
