Heckler bursts into Senate during debate over Trump’s ‘big beautiful bill’: 'You people are awful'

WASHINGTON, DC: The heated debate on the Senate floor over President Donald Trump’s much hyped tax and spending bill descended into chaos as a heckler stormed into the room.

The formal debate on the sprawling domestic policy legislation began on Sunday, June 29, after Democrats compelled Senate clerks to read the full 940-page bill aloud, emphasizing their point that the public is largely unaware of what the package Trump dubbed "One Big, Beautiful Bill" actually contains.

The conclusion of the Senate's weekend work remains uncertain and turbulent, and overnight voting has been pushed off until Monday, June 30, according to the Guardian.

The legislation, which was narrowly passed by the House last month, contains higher spending on border security, defense, and energy production, which is somewhat offset by cuts to healthcare and nutrition programs.

Heckler storms into Senate during heated debate

During the heated debate, Independent Senator Bernie Sanders had just concluded his argument opposing Trump’s heavily promoted spending bill when a heckler interrupted the proceedings with loud screaming.

“This bill is not what the American people want, and I hope very much we can defeat it,” Sanders said, concluding his argument, according to Daily Beast.

As he walked off the podium, a livestream of the debate caught a muffled voice that gradually became apparent. “You people are awful,” a heckler screamed.

“You’re awful. You’re awful,” he continued as Presiding Officer Sen Dave McCormick immediately ordered the sergeant at arms to “restore order in the gallery.”

As officers worked to restore order, the heckler could still be heard screaming. The protester was heard yelling “You’re horrible” right before the chamber returned to silence.

The heckler has reportedly been arrested for interrupting the proceedings but his identity hasn't been released.

As the debate continued, Donald Trump warned ‘cost-cutting’ Republicans, who are opposing his ‘big beautiful bill.’

“For all cost-cutting Republicans, of which I am one, REMEMBER, you still have to get reelected. Don’t go too crazy! We will make it all up, times 10, with GROWTH, more than ever before,” he wrote on Truth Social.

This came just a day after the 79-year-old president slammed Sen Thom Tillis on for opposing the party's domestic policy plan, threatening to field potential primary opponents to the North Carolina Republican.

“Numerous people have come forward wanting to run in the Primary against ‘Senator Thom’ Tillis,” Trump wrote on Saturday, adding, “I will be meeting with them over the coming weeks, looking for someone who will properly represent the Great People of North Carolina and, so importantly, the United States of America.”

Trump's social media criticism came hours after Tillis said in a statement that he "cannot support this bill in its current form," citing expected Medicaid cuts that would "result in tens of billions of dollars in lost funding for North Carolina, including our hospitals and rural communities."

Trump accused the two-term senator of acting "in order to get some publicity for himself, for a possible, but very difficult re-election."

“Looks like Senator Thom Tillis, as usual, wants to tell the Nation that he’s giving them a 68% Tax Increase, as opposed to the Biggest Tax Cut in American History!” Trump wrote, adding, “Thom Tillis is making a BIG MISTAKE for America, and the Wonderful People of North Carolina!”
