WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump took an aim at Vice President Kamala Harris after Senator Bernie Sanders suggested she had shifted away from her far-left policies to win the election.

Trump responded by accusing Harris of being a “total phony,” pointing to Sanders’ comments as evidence of her political transformation.

Bernie Sanders' remark on Kamala Harris' pragmatism

During an appearance on NBC’s 'Meet the Press', Bernie Sanders was asked about Kamala Harris moving away from progressive stances, such as her support for Medicare-for-all and a ban on fracking.

NBC anchor Kristen Welker asked Sanders, "Do you think she is abandoning her progressive ideals?"

In response, Sanders stated, “No, I don’t think she’s abandoning her ideals. I think she’s trying to be pragmatic and doing what she thinks is right in order to win the election," Fox News reported.

The former US president seized on the comments, claiming that Bernie Sanders had effectively revealed Kamala Harris’ true nature.

"Bernie Sanders just said that Kamala only changed her Marxist policy positions for the Election — She’ll change back very quickly!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social account on Monday.

In another post on Truth Social, he wrote, "Bernie Sanders really threw Comrade Kamala Harris under the proverbial ‘BUS.’ Essentially said, very clearly, that she is a total phony. Once a Marxist, always a Marxist!"

Donald Trump mocks Kamala Harris for visiting 'meanest spice shop in America'

Amid her debate preparations, Kamala Harris took a break to visit Penzeys Spices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Greeted with cheers, Harris interacted with customers, took selfies, and expressed a message of unity.

“Look, it’s time to turn the page on the divisiveness. It’s time to bring our country together, chart a new way forward,” she said during her visit.

However, the spice shop itself drew criticism from Fox News. A host referred to it as America’s “meanest spice shop” because of the shop’s political stance against the GOP.

The CEO of Penzeys, Bill Penzey Jr, had written extensively on the store's website about the Republican Party with a separate page named About Republicans describing a “slow decline” of the GOP, as reported by Independent.

Trump also mocked Harris’ visit to Penzeys, calling it “an ultra Left Wing, Trump Hating, spice shop.”

He further added, “As people begin to realize that she is a Marxist, FAR MORE LIBERAL than Crazy Bernie Sanders, or even Elizabeth ‘Pocahontas’ Warren, her poll numbers are beginning to crash.”

He suggested Joe Biden should come back, "Who are they going to put in next? How about a Biden comeback?"
