'He's on fire!' Internet roars in laughter as Seth Meyers roasts Trump for repeatedly misusing 'interpose'
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Donald Trump recently attempted to justify his frequent mix-ups of Nikki Haley and Nancy Pelosi by claiming that he deliberately "interposes" them.
However, this usage of "interpose" doesn't align with its actual definition, a fact that amused Seth Meyers during his night show on February 15.
Trump's Valentine's Day rally criticism draws laughter from Seth Meyers
At a Valentine's Day rally, Trump continued his pattern of criticizing those who oppose him and took aim at journalists once more, asserting that he purposely swaps the women's names because, in his opinion, "they both stink".
Meyers played the same clip during his 'A Closer Look' segment and offered a humorous observation.
Trump rambled, "When I say that Obama is the president of our country, blah-blah-blah, they go, "He doesn’t know that’s Biden! He doesn’t know. " So it’s very hard to be sarcastic when I interpose -- because I’m not a Nikki fan and I’m not a Pelosi fan -- and when I purposely interpose names, they said, "He didn’t know Pelosi from Nikki" -- from Tricky Nikki, Tricky Nikki.
"He didn’t know I interpose, and they make a big deal out of it. I said, "No, no, I think they both stink. They have something in common. They both stink". Trump continued.
In reply to Trump's clip, Meyers quipped, "Can I guess what the word of the day on your word of the day calendar was yesterday?, continuing, "And can I follow-up guess that you saw the word and didn’t read the definition? Because you are definitely using it wrong."
The true definition of "interpose" is "to intrude" or "to place in an intervening position". It appears Trump may have been attempting to use either "interchange" or "transpose," but ended up blending the two.
However, the 'Late Night' host was more concerned with Trump spontaneously creating a new nickname for Haley during his speech.
"It doesn’t instill much confidence in your cognitive abilities when you suddenly start rhyming words mid-rant, resembling a malfunctioning robot," he remarked.
Seth Meyers' 'A Closer Look' segment sparks social media buzz
Following Seth Meyers' latest comedic commentary, social media platforms became abuzz with reactions from viewers, each expressing their unique perspective on Meyers' humorous insights.
"This is the best 'A Closer Look' in a long time. I seldom laugh out loud at home alone, but this one got me going. Thanks," one person wrote.
Another commented, "Trump calling anyone a crazed lunatic... irony killed itself."
"You have to admit...Trump provides all the late-night comedians with tons of material... I love it!!!" was another remark.
Praising Meyers, another person said, "Thank you Seth for keeping it funny, but keeping it real," while someone else quipped, "These 'A Closer Look' segments always make me smile."
In admiration of Meyers' comedic skills, one person wrote, "Seth is a comedic genius. He adlibs so effortlessly," and another exclaimed, "OMG… Seth… you are the best! You are helping us all survive this craziness! Please keep it up!"
"Seth was ON FIRE with the impressions this whole segment," noted another viewer.
Elsewhere in the segment, Meyers humorously remarked that Trump's sudden rhyming of names, like "Tricky Nikki, Sticky Ricky, Picky Mickey, Wiggy Wiggy, Wild Wild West," during a rally didn't exactly instill confidence in his cognitive abilities.
Meyers sarcastically acknowledged Trump's explanation that he intentionally interchanged the names of Nancy Pelosi and Nikki Haley because, according to Trump, they both "stink."
He then cleverly quipped that Trump's reasoning sounded like a MAGA-themed Captcha, humorously suggesting that according to Trump's perspective, all individuals listed would be deemed as "stinking".
