WASHINGTON, DC: Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton celebrated five decades of marriage to her husband, former President Bill Clinton, with a touching online tribute and a set of rare wedding photos that took fans back to 1975.

On Saturday, October 11, Hillary shared a heartfelt message on Instagram alongside six throwback images from their intimate Arkansas wedding. “When we got married 50 years ago, we had no idea how our lives would unfold,” she wrote. “But one thing I knew for certain then, and still know now, is that I wanted to navigate the ups and downs and in-betweens with you. Happy anniversary, dear Bill.”

Rare throwback photos show a young Hillary and Bill Clinton beaming with joy

The vintage photos captured the couple at their most candid — all soft-focus smiles and unmistakable 1970s charm. In one shot, a youthful Bill gazed lovingly at Hillary, dressed in a lace-trimmed gown with puffed sleeves. Another showed her mid-laugh, her signature blonde curls tumbling loosely over her shoulders.

The series also included solo portraits of Hillary as a young bride — one smiling radiantly, another flashing a mischievous grin. Two more images showed the newlyweds surrounded by friends outdoors, laughing beneath the trees.

Bill Clinton also took to Facebook that morning to share his own reflection. Posting a single wedding-day photo, he wrote, “For 50 years, you have kept me thinking, laughing, and growing. You inspire me every day with your boundless determination to do good in the world in ways large and small. I’m so grateful for you and the life we’ve built together. Happy anniversary, Hillary! Here’s to many more.”

From law school sweethearts to political icons

The Clintons’ story began at Yale Law School in 1972, where Hillary reportedly made the first move after catching Bill’s attention in the library. Three years later, they wed at their home in Fayetteville, Arkansas, surrounded by close friends and family.

After the wedding, the couple settled in Arkansas, where Bill pursued early political ambitions. By 1978, he was elected governor, setting the stage for their rise to national prominence. Their only child, Chelsea Clinton, was born in 1980, completing one of America’s most recognizable political families.

Anniversary post reignites memories of past controversies

While the anniversary posts drew admiration and nostalgia from many, they also revived memories of one of the most infamous chapters in Bill Clinton’s presidency — his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

In 1997, a Pentagon employee secretly recorded conversations with Lewinsky, who revealed details of the affair that began two years earlier. During a 1998 deposition, Bill denied any involvement but later admitted to an “inappropriate relationship” before a grand jury, insisting he never asked anyone to “lie, hide, or destroy evidence.”

Despite the scandal that led to his impeachment, the Clintons weathered the storm and remained together — a resilience that many followers praised as the ultimate testament to their bond.
