WASHINGTON, DC: Former first son Hunter Biden has revealed he is disappointed over former Vice President Kamala Harris' negative depiction of his father, Joe Biden, in her new memoir, '107 Days', and related book tour.
Hunter came to the defense of his father's decision to have Harris as his running mate, openly indicating that her being Black was a deciding factor behind the choice.
Hunter Biden 'really disappointed' in Kamala Harris' book
Hunter Biden, in a three-hour interview with journalist Tommy Christopher on Substack, confessed, “I didn’t read it. I really didn’t. I’m just really disappointed. I’ve just heard some of the things. I tried to block it out.”
He expounded on his wounded feelings, saying, “I’d have to admit, it’s personally painful," and continued saying, “for her to, in a book, to try to distance herself and take what I would call the really easy path to distance herself to what I guess she thinks … the biggest complaint about the vice president has always been is that — which I never believe, and I really mean it — is that she is not authentic.”
Kamala Harris criticized Joe Biden's reelection bid in '107 Days'
Kamala Harris largely steered clear of attacking former President Joe Biden, 82, during her 2024 presidential campaign, contrary to the advice of some Democratic strategists.
However, in her new memoir, which covers her short stint as the Democratic presidential nominee, she offers her unfiltered opinions, notably describing her former boss' pursuit of a second term as “recklessness.”
She also recounts a tense phone call from the 46th president just before a debate with President Donald Trump, where he questioned her about rumors of her criticizing him to donors. Harris writes, "My head had to be right. I had to be completely in the game. I just couldn’t understand why he would call me, right now, and make it all about himself."
The book also covers the extensively reported staff frictions between their respective teams while they worked in the White House.
In her promotional tour, Harris also distanced herself from some administration choices, including the exclusion of tech mogul Elon Musk from an electric vehicle event held at the White House.
After the publication of the memoir, Harris assured she had spoken to the former president about the book, but she didn't reveal what was said during that conversation.
Hunter Biden still expresses admiration for Kamala Harris
Kamala Harris' openness notwithstanding, his father's VP pick still found a defender in Hunter Biden. "I love what she represented, and I love the fact that my dad made the decision," he clarified.
Hunter continued, "Let me tell you about loyalty. The reason that he picked Kamala Harris is because of the fact that he believes, and I certainly believe, the most powerful force within the Democratic Party is and always has been the African American women."
He ended by putting the choice as an act of loyalty: "He chose her out of loyalty."
The former first son added, "I guess I don’t understand why someone would choose the expedient path as it relates to that relationship, their own political expediency."
