WASHINGTON, DC: Hunter Biden on Saturday, July 25, sharply criticized President Donald Trump following his speech at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Friday, July 24, accusing the president of using humor to target others rather than himself.

In a post on X, Biden said Trump's remarks left him feeling "sad and embarrassed and exhausted," arguing that the president lacks the ability to laugh at himself.

His comments came after Trump addressed the annual gathering in Washington, where he mixed tributes to law enforcement with jokes aimed at political opponents and members of the media.

Reflecting on Trump's appearance, Hunter Biden wrote, "I watched Trump's speech at the Correspondents' Dinner last night. It's hard to articulate how sad it made me. Sad and embarrassed and exhausted." He continued, "Here is the thing about a man who is a joke. He can't tell one."

Hunter Biden argued that humor requires self-awareness, writing, "People think humor is a talent. It isn't. It's a capacity. To make someone laugh you have to be able to laugh at yourself."

He added that Trump "has never once managed it. Not in fifty years of cameras. Not for a second," before claiming the president routinely targets other people instead.

"So he stood up there and did what he always does. He hit down. He made jokes about people's weight. He made jokes about their intelligence. He made jokes about how women look. He read out the names of people he doesn't like, and mocked them. Always mocking," Hunter Biden wrote. He also said, "The cruelty dressed as humor has worn so thin."

Addressing Trump supporters, Hunter Biden wrote, "Please, for the love of God, open your eyes. Wake up."

He concluded his post by referencing Trump's joke about former president Joe Biden, writing, "Joe Biden wasn't standing at that podium last night. Donald Trump was."

Trump mixes media jabs with 2028 joke

Trump's remarks marked his first address to the White House Correspondents' Association dinner as president after the original event was postponed following the April assassination attempt at the Washington Hilton.

The evening began with tributes to the US Secret Service, law enforcement officers, and hotel staff who responded during the shooting, with Officer Victor Gonzales receiving the WHCA President's Award for Exceptional Service. Trump praised Gonzales' actions and thanked the Secret Service for protecting him, his family, and attendees.

The president then shifted into a speech that combined humor with familiar jabs at political opponents and the media.

Among the night's biggest moments was Trump's unveiling of a red cap reading "Trump 2028" as he joked that he intended to seek a fourth presidential term, later making clear that the remarks were intended as a joke.

Trump also joked about Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, took aim at several Democratic politicians, and made remarks about CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins. While some jokes drew strong laughter, others received a more muted response.
