NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Conservative political commentator Megyn Kelly was slammed online for holding former President Donald Trump and former UN ambassador Nikki Haley to different standards for their opinion on trans issues.

When faced with the question - if "a man could become a woman," neither Trump nor Haley, both of whom are running for the position of the Republican presidential candidate for 2024, could give a straight 'yes' or 'no' answer.

How did Nikki Haley respond to the question?

During a virtual town hall on January 14 in Dubuque, Iowa, a voter told Haley, "A lot of the stuff that Trump does, you know, and says, really bothers me, and I’m concerned about it. You know, one thing I saw him do was, he said that, uh, he had trouble answering the question, could a man become a woman?"

"I’m just wondering what, what your response to that question is?" asked the caller, who identified himself as John.

The former Governor of South Carolina opted to provide an elaborate response, saying, "There’s been a lot that’s been talked about when it comes to all of these roles and all of these issues. I strongly believe that we should not allow any gender change surgeries to anyone before the age of 18. Period... We shouldn’t have (kids) permanently change their body until they’re 18. And that includes puberty blockers, that includes any sort of hormones that would do that."

"After the age of 18, we want to make sure people can live any way they want to live. I don’t think government needs to be in control of anybody’s life. You go live the way you want to live, you should be free to live the way you want to live, and every– government and everybody else should stay out of your way," she continued.

At no point did she answer the particular question that she was asked in her response.

How did Donald Trump answer the same question?

In September 2023, 'The Megyn Kelly Show' host directly posed the question, “Can a man become a woman?” to Trump.

The business tycoon had then paused for a chuckle, before replying, "In my opinion, you have a man, you have a woman. I think part of it is birth. Can the man give birth? No, although they’ll come up with some answer to that also someday. I heard just the other day, they have a way that now the man can give birth. No, I would say, I’ll continue my stance on that.”

Internet responds to Megyn Kelly's tweet

Kelly shared her opinion on Haley's response on X, writing, "This is utter bullshit. The WRONG ANSWER & an unnecessary weird pander to the rabid trans lobby. The answer is NO, A MAN CANNOT BECOME A WOMAN."

Social media users at once jumped at the opportunity to remind her of the Trump interview and trolled her for having different takes on the two cases.

"Trump gave the same pandering answer. But yet @megynkelly continues to kiss the ring, even after being disparaged by misogynistic comments directed at her by Trump," commented a user.

"Well, you've given Trump a pass for the same thing," voiced a second.

Another echoed, "And yet you gush over Trump. Makes no sense."

"Your boy Trump sweats when you ask him that, but you aren't attacking him. DeSantis is the way to stop the nonsense," expressed a fourth.

"When Trump couldn’t answer the same question you were silent. It’s called hypocrisy," shared a fifth.
