'I can't hit my headnotes': Adele announces she needs to take voice rest years after throat polyps surgery
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Adele disclosed that she needs to go on a vocal break after she reportedly faced a serious issue with her voice during her Las Vegas residency, years after throat polyps surgery.
The 'Skyfall' singer gave the health update at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Saturday, February 24, as per Daily Mail.
Adele compared her voice to Ursula from 'The Little Mermaid'
Adele shared, "In the middle of last night - I'm sure you can hear it in my talking voice and my singing voice a little bit. Your girl was tired. I didn't sleep very well."
She added, "And Ursula from the ocean has come from my chest tonight. I can't hit my headnotes properly. I didn't sleep very well and my chest is on fire... I can tell I'm going to have a coffee in like 10 days, but I'm still here."
The ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ singer, however, then asserted, "Straight after this show I am going on voice rest. Can you imagine how hard now me not talking for three days is?"
"So I'm going to be in bed coughing my guts up on complete voice rest... And not only is my partner an absolute chatterbox, but so is my son. So I am going to have to lock myself in a cupboard or something like that," sighed Adele.
Adele expresses her gratitude toward her fans
During the event, Adele thanked the people who had come to see her as she noted, "You've been amazing. The show. Thank you, thank love, magical, magical, all putting it together from the moment out. I'm so glad you had a good time. I look crazy, I feel crazy," before once again adding, "I'm going to go on voice rest."
Besides hampering her scheduled shows, the sudden health issue also ruined her weekend plans of watching and shouting while watching Jennifer Lopez’s new movie, 'This Is Me…Now: A Love Story'.
The 'Hello' singer shared, "I made very solid plans with my gay friends, they were going to come round to my house. We were going to light a fire, maybe have a spritzer, which obviously now I can't have - dammit."
She then mentioned, "And we were going to sit down and watch the new JLo movie, which I've been so excited about. B*****s f****g made other plans. They already have plans. And they have left me on my own."
Adele had a hard time coping with her inability to speak after the 2011 vocal cord surgery
Adele's current voice rest comes years after a vocal cord surgery that she went through in October 2011 to solve the issue of recurrent hemorrhaging caused by a benign polyp.
Months after the operation, the 'Someone Like You' hitmaker told CBS News, "[Not speaking] was really hard. I love talking. I also had an application on my phone that you type the words into it and then it speaks it."
At the time, she added, "But the great thing is I love to swear. Most of [the apps] you can't swear on, but I found this one app where you can swear, so I'm still really getting my point across."
