LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Andrew Garfield is keeping his distance from ChatGPT. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, he shared how his perspective changed while playing OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in the movie 'Artificial.'

According to Garfield, the more he learns about AI, the more he realizes he is getting into “very unknown territory.” He said he experienced something similar while working on the film 'The Social Network.'

Garfield is back in Silicon Valley, but this time, he knows where to draw the line.

Andrew Garfield reveals AI concerns after playing Sam Altman

Speaking with show host Kimmel, the actor shared, “I got off my ChatGPT immediately. I don't really know even how to explain why but just the more you know and the more you realize we're careening into some very unknown territory."

He continued, “It's the same thing that happened to me when I did The Social Network, which was I got off Facebook immediately."

“What I suppose is good and transparent is they're like, ‘Yeah, no, we kind of don't know who's going to lose their jobs and how we're going to create an economy that works for ordinary people but we're going to find out and I promise you it's going to be awesome’", he added.

Cooper Hoffman will play Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s board chairman, while Mark Rylance will portray Geoffrey Hinton, described as the field’s reluctant conscience.

During an interview on the 'SmartLess' podcast, Garfield shared, “I’m nervous about that one. I’m really scared about that one.”

When asked why, the actor said, “Well, yeah. You’re playing one of arguably that most powerful people on this planet right now, or an interpretation of this person.”

He added that the movie isn’t intended to make Altman look bad, saying, “I hope we’re not villainizing anyone or making anyone into a hero or villain. What Luca’s films do, he gets into the grey area of what it is to be human.”
