‘I settled eight wars’: Trump admits ‘another one is coming’ as Nobel prize decision nears
WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump defended his record ahead of Friday's Nobel Peace Prize announcement, claiming he has “settled eight wars” before warning that “another one is coming.”
Trump said he had gotten all the hostages back and used tariffs and other threats to prevent wars, while experts described his chances of winning as “quite low.”
He made the remarks Wednesday, October 7, during questions from reporters in the Oval Office after announcing the expansion of his Trump Accounts program.

Trump ties Nobel case to claimed eight-war record
Trump tied his Nobel case directly to what he described as an unprecedented record of conflict resolution, saying he had settled eight wars and saved “millions and millions of lives.”
“I settled eight wars, and big ones, big ones saved millions and millions of lives,” Trump said. “I got all the hostages back.”
He also said he had prevented other wars by using “the powers of tariffs and lots of other things as a threat against certain countries.”
Trump added that he had stopped what he called the “total obliteration of the world” because Iran would not obtain a nuclear weapon.
The Nobel Peace Prize is due to be awarded Friday, October 9.
As per ABC News, Trump has been nominated by the leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan, but Haakon Gjerløw, acting director of the Peace Research Institute Oslo, said his chances are “quite low.”
Trump acknowledged that the committee could reject him, saying, “They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me.”
He then argued that his record should outweigh the committee's decision.
“I have done far more,” Trump said, adding that he believed denying him the prize would be “a great discredit to them.”
President Trump warns that another war is coming
Trump's warning came after he was asked whether he regretted how he had used his time behind the Oval Office desk, with the Nobel announcement approaching.
“Another one is coming,” Trump said after discussing the eight wars he claimed to have settled.
He also said he had “got all the hostages back” and stopped wars from happening through threats against countries.
Trump pointed to last year's Nobel recipient, Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado, who presented her prize to him in January 2026.
Machado had received the 2025 prize for her “struggle to a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
Trump said Machado had told him he deserved the award and that he had since settled eight wars.
The Nobel committee said the award was not transferable, while Trump called Machado's gesture “a wonderful gesture of mutual respect.”
Experts put Trump's Nobel chances low
Gjerløw said this year's committee would consider whether giving Trump the prize could “do more harm than good,” citing the events surrounding last year's award, ABC News cited.
Shawn Davies, a senior analyst at the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, was more direct about Trump's prospects, as per the outlet.
He said, “I don't even think his own base would believe” Trump could win now, “given how he's stuck in what looks like a forever war in Iran.”
Nelson Wiseman, a political science professor at the University of Toronto, said, “Trump will be unhappy whoever gets the Nobel.”
The committee received nominations for 287 candidates, according to the outlet.
Gjerløw said the International Space Station and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney were among the names on his forecasting list, with Carney cited for standing up to Trump over US tariffs.
