ICE shooting in the Bronx leaves man hospitalized
The shooting occurred in the Marble Hill neighborhood on Thursday. Mamdani said early reports indicated that federal agents surrounded the man and the child inside the vehicle before firing multiple rounds.
DHS said the man was immediately given medical assistance and was alive at a local hospital. The agency also said the FBI was at the scene.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that its officers were not involved in the incident and were not present when the shooting occurred.
DHS said ICE officers were conducting an operation to arrest a man from the Dominican Republic who had a prior conviction for grand larceny and previous arrests involving assault, robbery, d**g possession and weapons possession. The agency also alleged that the man had associations with the Trinitarios gang.
According to DHS, the man had been arrested by the NYPD on December 7, 2023, but was later released. The agency did not specify the circumstances of that release.
DHS has not publicly explained why the ICE officer fired. The FBI was also at the scene, according to the department.
Zohran Mamdani condemns ICE shooting and demands end to enforcement actions
Mamdani condemned the shooting and said he had contacted President Donald Trump about the incident. He said he would demand that the president end ICE enforcement actions in New York City.
“This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation,” Mamdani said. He added that he would not stand by while ICE agents “terrorize our communities.”
This afternoon in Marble Hill, a New Yorker was shot by an ICE agent in a residential neighborhood. Early reports indicate agents surrounded him and a 5-year-old child in his car before firing multiple rounds. We believe the child was physically unharmed. This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities. Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery. Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children. Abolish ICE.
