Kathy Hochul, Alec Baldwin mock Trump in Albany skit as ‘Wrath of Kath’ joke lands
ALBANY, NEW YORK: New York Gov Kathy Hochul and actor Alec Baldwin drew attention after appearing in a comedic video at New York’s Legislative Correspondents’ Association event in Albany. The annual gathering blends political reporting with satire and features staged comedy segments involving public figures.
The sketch, shown during Tuesday night’s program, featured Alec Baldwin reprising his long-running impersonation of Donald Trump, a role he previously popularised on ‘Saturday Night Live’.
Alec Baldwin portrays Trump in satirical Albany phone call
In the video, Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump calls Kathy Hochul late at night and jokingly demands that famous New York landmarks be renamed after him.
“Kit-Kat, it’s your favorite King,” Alec Baldwin says in character, before pitching the idea of turning Central Park into “Cen-TRUMP Park.”
“You know that big, beautiful park in Manhattan?” he says.
“Central Park?” Kathy Hochul responds, appearing to film her segment separately.
“Cen-TRUMP Park,” he replies.
“Yeah, that’s a hard pass, Mr President,” she says.
She then jokes about redirecting attention toward other locations, including a tongue-in-cheek suggestion referencing the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
The comedy segment also referenced inflation, media criticism, and tensions between political leadership and parts of the press. The skit also included a nod to The New York Post and its Albany coverage of state government issues.
Alec Baldwin’s Trump portrayal continues to shape political comedy
Alec Baldwin’s portrayal of Donald Trump has remained one of the most recognisable political impressions in recent American satire, frequently resurfacing during election cycles and major political moments.
While the segment drew laughter from attendees, it also sparked mixed reactions online, with some calling it exaggerated and others viewing it as standard political humour at public events.
