Ilhan Omar jokes media fixates on her ‘good’ looks during Hasan Piker livestream
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: Rep. Ilhan Omar joked that the media focuses on her looks during a conversation with streamer Hasan Piker on Monday, October 26, ahead of their appearance at an event hosted by Minnesota state lawmaker Omar Fateh.
The exchange came as Omar faced scrutiny over a federal investigation into allegations of possible immigration fraud. Her appearance alongside Piker, whose past comments have drawn criticism from Republicans and Jewish groups, also prompted her Republican opponent, John Nagel, to question her decision to share the stage with him.

During their conversation before taking the stage, Piker told Omar that the media tends to highlight everything they do, even as they go about their daily lives and organize against the Trump administration.
“Why is that?” Piker asked.
Omar replied, “We just look really good on their screens.”
The exchange took place ahead of the inaugural episode of Fateh’s 'I’m The Host Now!' series. Fateh introduced Omar to the crowd as “my sister and congresswoman” and said tickets for the event featuring “everyone’s favorite streamer” had sold out in five minutes.

A post by Jeff Rainforth on X also drew attention to the exchange, making personal remarks about Omar and suggesting she was looking for a new husband.
The conversation later turned to Minneapolis’ Somali American community and its connections. Omar spoke about how difficult federal authorities had found it to penetrate what she described as the community’s network.
Ilhan Omar discusses Minneapolis’ Somali network and DHS meeting
Omar recalled a meeting with Department of Homeland Security officials shortly after President Donald Trump took office in 2025. She said the meeting was intended to help them understand the situation and prepare in case federal authorities targeted their community.
According to Omar, a DHS attorney told them that Minnesota was the one state where the attorney found the network difficult to penetrate.

“I’ve been doing this for decades, and this is the one state I hate to be assigned to because it is the only state that has a network that is hard to penetrate,” Omar recalled the attorney saying.
She added that members of the community had met in her office and conference room two months earlier to discuss how they would respond if they were targeted.
Omar also declared, “Somalis are not the people to mess with.”
Piker offered his own explanation for why Minneapolis had become the focus of national attention, arguing that “jealousy” was to blame. He claimed that “white supremacist forces in this country have decided to target Minneapolis because of the successful Somali American community that has been able to thrive here.”
John Nagel criticizes Ilhan Omar’s appearance with Hasan Piker
There is nothing peaceful about my opponent; look at who she associates with: Hasan Piker.@foxnewspolitics
— John Nagel for Congress MN-5 (@Nagel4Congress) October 26, 2026
Omar’s appearance with Piker drew criticism from Republicans and Jewish groups, with her Republican opponent John Nagel questioning her decision to participate in the event.
“Ilhan Omar knows exactly who Hasan Piker is and what he has said,” Nagel wrote on X.
Nagel pointed to Piker’s past remarks, including his statement that “America deserved 9/11” and his claim that he would vote for Hamas over Israel “every single time.”
Nagel argued that Omar’s appearance alongside the streamer went beyond ordinary political outreach.

“This is not outreach. It is the normalization of antisemitism, support for terrorists and contempt for America,” he said.
He also called on prominent Minnesota Democrats to disavow Omar’s appearance with Piker.
