Ilhan Omar’s husband earned as little as $200 after earlier filings valued businesses at up to $30M: report
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Ilhan Omar's latest financial disclosure showed the millionaire image she and husband Tim Mynett projected last year had evaporated after she previously blamed an accounting error for the earlier valuation.
Mynett now claims to be pocketing as little as $200 a year, as per the report. The dramatic swing revived scrutiny over the couple's finances. It also put fresh focus on how multimillion-dollar claims from 2024 turned into reported negative net worth in 2025.
Ilhan Omar's new filing reverses millionaire image
According to a report by the New York Post, the Minnesota Democrat's newly released 2025 financial disclosure said Mynett earned no income from his main business, Rose Lake Capital, last year.
According to the filing, the only income he reported was between $200 and $1,000 from his now-defunct California wine venture eStCru, which sold labels including ‘The Devil's Lie’ before shutting down in April.
Omar's filing estimated the couple's total assets at between $20,000 and $125,000. Their credit card and student loan debt totaled between $30,000 and $100,000, leaving their net worth between negative $80,000 and negative $95,000.The numbers marked a sharp reversal from disclosures filed in 2024.
Last year, the couple reported wealth ranging from $5 million to $30 million, triggering public scrutiny over the sudden jump from previously modest holdings.
Omar blamed discrepancy on accounting error
The questions surrounding the filings eventually led to a congressional investigation into Omar's finances.
In March, the Somalia-born lawmaker filed an amended 2024 disclosure and listed the value of Mynett's ownership stakes in both Rose Lake Capital and eStCru at zero.
She attributed the issue to an accounting mistake, saying the previous figures stemmed from a "discrepancy" caused by an error.
Despite assigning no value to the businesses, the amended filing still showed Rose Lake Capital generated between $100,000 and $1 million in income that year, while eStCru produced between $2,500 and $5,000.
RNC seizes on latest Omar disclosure
Republican National Committee spokeswoman Delanie Bomar used the latest filing to renew criticism of Omar.
"Voters see right through the corrupt lies of Ilhan Omar," Bomar told the New York Post.
"Omar has spent her entire career covering up Democrat-enabled fraud that cost taxpayers billions, so it's no surprise that she would do the same for her husband," she added.
Mynett, 44, launched Rose Lake Capital in 2022 with longtime Democratic operative Will Hailer.
The pair first met while working for Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison during his 2012 re-election campaign for Congress.
Ellison later vacated his House seat in 2018 to run for attorney general, creating the opening that Omar eventually filled, while Hailer has said he orchestrated the move.
