‘I’m not in love with him’: Joy Behar fires back after Sunny Hostin’s JD Vance jab on ‘The View’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Joy Behar is setting the record straight that while she may have been cordial to JD Vance during his appearance on ‘The View', she is not "in love" with the Vice President.
The longtime TV personality pushed back after co-host Sunny Hostin jokingly suggested she had developed a soft spot for Vance. The exchange sparked laughter and tension on the panel as Behar defended her conduct during the vice president's recent appearance on the show.
The discussion stemmed from Behar's friendly interaction with Vance and comments she later made about him on a podcast. While her co-hosts viewed the exchange as unusually warm, Behar insisted she was simply being respectful to a guest.
Sunny Hostin questions Joy Behar over JD Vance remarks
'The View' hosts were left dumbfounded on Friday when a clip of Vance's comments was played during the episode.
"I have seen some progressive criticisms of me personally, saying, 'What experience does the vice president of the United States have with hostile, high-stakes negotiations?' I would point those progressive critics to the fact that just two days ago, I spent over an hour on The View. So I actually have a great experience in very hostile negotiations," he told reporters.
The 42-year-old vice president added, "Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians, and she and I are best friends now.”
"What? We were more difficult to deal with than the Iranian government?" Sunny Hostin said incredulously.
"I wish Joy had negotiated this Iran deal—it would've been better," Ana Navarro chimed in.
Hostin then pressed Behar, who had told Vance he was not bad "for a Republican" during a commercial break and later spoke warmly about Vance on a podcast.
"I want to know, why were you so—why were you so in love with JD Vance?"
"I wasn't in love. Look, I'm not in love with him, and I'm not in love with this administration," Behar immediately pushed back.
Navarro noted that Vance "came in strategically prepared to disarm us with niceness," telling Behar, "I mean, it worked on you, didn't work on me."
"It did not work on me, Ana. It did not. I respect the office; I'm a civilized human being. When someone comes on my show, then you treat them like a human being," Behar then protested.
Joy Behar explains why she suggested JD Vance run for president
Behar, during a commercial break on 'The View', reportedly told Vance that he should run for president in the 2028 election.
"You told him during the break that he should run for president because he has a good vibe," executive producer Brian Teta said during the show's 'Behind the Table' podcast while speaking to Behar.
"I think that, even though, for a Republican. Mind you, I'm not a Republican," Behar confirmed, adding that "I think possibly, I voted for Michael Bloomberg once for mayor who was supposed — Bloomberg supposedly was a Republican."
"I don't mind a Republican on the city level because it needs a little discipline. But on the national level, I want somebody with a good heart. And those are more in the Democratic Party, in my opinion."
"They care about the poor. They help people," she added. "The Republican Party is much more about saving taxes for rich people. So, I'm not a Republican."
