WASHINGTON, DC: Special Counsel Jack Smith was reportedly appointed by Attorney General Merrick B Garland to investigate former President Donald Trump.

The investigations encompassed two major incidents: Trump's alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack, along with Trump's possession of classified materials at his Florida residence, as per The New York Times.

In a recent development on the investigations, Fox News anchor Sean Hannity has revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Special Counsel Smith is “expected” to use Trump's phone data during the trial, sparking a reaction from internet users.

On X, Fox News anchor Sean Hannity wrote, “HOLD THE PHONE: Jack Smith Expected to Use Trump's Phone Data at Trial; Report.”

Hannity also updated his official website with an article on Donald Trump’s trial which is currently being overseen by Jack Smith.

In this article, Hannity shared claims from a report by Axios about how Smith plans to use data from Trump’s White House cell phone in the “federal 2020 election interference case.”

It has been reported that Smith plans to summon a special witness responsible for "extracting and processing data" from Trump's phone, along with another undisclosed individual.

Hannity, citing Axios, mentioned that this witness would also "determine the usages of the phone" during the post-2020 election period, encompassing January 6, 2021.

The report highlighted specific timeframes, including when X (then Twitter) was open on Trump's phone on the day of the Capitol riot, according to the court filing.
