NEWTON, IOWA: Former President Donald Trump addressed a campaign event in Newton, Iowa, on Saturday, January 6, where he painted a picture for his ardent supporters of what might transpire in the event of him not winning his re-election bid this year.

In the ‘Commit to Caucus’ event, Trump forecasted a “Great Depression” like the one the country faced in 1929, if the outcome of the Presidential race in November didn’t go his way.

What did former President Donald Trump say in Newton?

Trump said during his speech in Newton on Saturday, “I’ll tell you, if I’m not elected, I think we’re going to end up in a Depression, like in 1929.”

“Because, you know, you ever notice like, every time a good poll comes, like all the polls now are saying that I’m beating him (Joe Biden),” he continued.

The 77-year-old GOP presidential frontrunner is no stranger to predicting bad things happening in the country when he’s out of power.

On December 29, last year, Trump sounded the alarm on his beleaguered social media platform Truth Social saying, “The economy is terrible & inflation, which by some accounts is more than 30% over the last three years, has totally destroyed the buying power of the consumer. The only thing that is keeping the economy ‘alive’ is the fumes of what we accomplished during the Trump administration.”

He continued, “The stock market is only high because people, & institutions, believe & expect me to win the presidential election of 2024.”

He cautioned his supporters in conclusion, “If I don’t win, it is my prediction that we will have a stock market ‘crash’ worse than that of 1929 — a Great Depression.”

All through last year, the former POTUS rambled about the state of the US economy and how his successor President Joe Biden has been bringing the country to its knees.

In April, he fussed over the crashing US dollar and the country slipping towards World War III, followed by his forecast of an economic depression, in July, per a report by Bitcoin.com.

He remarked at the time that the US was losing the currency war against China since he figured that the Chinese government was attempting to dethrone the United States Dollar as the world’s dominant currency.

Internet calls out Donald Trump's fear-mongering tactics

By now, people on X have recognized the pattern in Trump's speech through which he influences people. As a strongman politician does, Trump is adept at creating a hypothetical nightmarish scenario, rallying his supporters to stand by him, since he's the only one capable enough to stop said scenario.

One X user remarked, "Mmmm that’s some spicy fear mongering."

"What Trump is actually doing is foreshadowing what will happen if he returns as POTUS! Never Again!" another user said.

One user wrote, "Trump said before Biden was elected the stock market would crash. As usual he was dead wrong. Market at all time highs. Same story now. Scare everyone. Ask him if he sold any stocks and when? Full disclosure! He’s an extortionist."

"He said that in 2020, but apparently his cultists have not noticed his prophecy was false," one user tweeted.

Another X user stated, "This Dictator can never ever be president again."

One user remarked, "I must have missed the part in history class where World War III was averted by electing a specific president."
