WASHINGTON, DC: Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, took a parting jab at his Republican colleague who had spearheaded the effort to remove him from office.

McCarthy attacked firebrand Rep. Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida. He told reporters on Thursday, December 14, that Gaetz was "psychotic" and that the FBI investigates people with similar minds.

"He was psychotic. People study that type of crazy mind, right? Mainly the FBI," McCarthy informed.

It was the most recent blow in the ongoing war of words between McCarthy and Gaetz, whose resignation motion ultimately cost McCarthy the speakership in the House. When questioned recently by Politico about the Florida Republican in the House, McCarthy stated that Gaetz belonged in prison.

"You have a cross-section [of the delegation]. You have Gaetz, who belongs in jail, and you have serious members," McCarthy said in late November.

McCarthy's remark seemed to be a reference to the House Ethics Committee's current investigation into Gaetz's alleged sexual misbehavior and misappropriation of funds.

Reacting to McCarthy, Gaetz told the publication that those were "tough words from a guy who sucker punches people in the back," alluding to reports that McCarthy had elbowed Republican Tennessee Representative Tim Burchett in the kidneys.

Several people on X (formerly Twitter) dropped their views on the situation.

A user commented, "My personal advice Sir, keep your friends close! however, keep your enemies closer!", while one added, "He is Kevin you're right. But he was that way before he caused your downfall...."

Another person wrote, "Gaetz is a spoiled frat boy who never grew up. Hopefully he will be primaried out in 2024."

One user added, "The problem is people these aren’t going away. McCarthy, Romney and Ryan are still slithering around and controlling policy from behind the curtain."
