TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA: Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie ripped into Donald Trump as he took the stage on the fourth Republican debate at the University of Alabama and even compared the former US president to Lord Voldemort, the antagonist of the 'Harry Potter' franchise.

As debate moderator Megyn Kelly questioned Christie about his opposition of Trump and how he failed to stop the former president from running for his second term, the former federal prosecutor said it is "difficult" to be the "only person on the stage who is telling the truth."

He also called out fellow Republican presidential candidates Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy for slamming each other but not bringing up Trump nearly 17 minutes into the debate.

Chris Christie calls Donald Trump 'dictator' and 'bully'

Kelly began her question towards Christie at the fourth GOP debate asking him about his opposition to Trump.

"You endorsed Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020, You gave him an A for his first term," she began. "Since then however you have turned on him, calling him 'a liar, a loser, a conman and someone who cannot win. You've even said you got into this race just to stop President Trump," Kelly continued.

"His approval ratings with Republicans is currently at 81 percent, yours is at 25," she pointed out, adding how even in New Hampshire, "two thirds of GOP voters say they would be angry and disappointed" if Christie won.

"Respectfully Governor, you have not stopped Mr Trump and voters may wonder how you possibly become the nominee of a party that does not appear to like you very much," she added.

"It's often very difficult to be the only person on the stage who is telling the truth," Christie began his answer.

"I look at my watch and we are 17 minutes into this debate and except for your little speech in the beginning we've had these three acting as if the race is between the four of us, the fifth guy who doesn't have the guts to show up and stand here," he added.

"You just put it, he is way ahead in the polls. and yet we have got these three guys who are all seemingly to compete with Voldemort, 'He-Who-Should-Not-Be-Named,' they don't wanna talk about it," the former New Jersey governor said, evoking laughter from the crowd.

"The fact is when you go and you say the truth about somebody who is a dictator, a bully, who has taken shots at everybody, whether they have given him great service or not over time, who dares to disagree with him, then I understand why these three are timid to say anything about it," Christie stated.

"Maybe it's because of their future aspirations, maybe those future aspirations are now or maybe they are for years from now but the fact of the matter is the truth needs to be told. And for us to go 17 minutes without discussing the guy who has all those numbers you talked about is ridiculous," he continued.

"I am in this race because the truth needs to be spoken," Christie claimed before ripping into Trump further, saying, "He is unfit, this is a guy who just said this past week that he wants to use the Department of Justice to go after his enemies when he gets in there."

"And the fact of matter is, he is unfit to president and there is no bigger issue in this race Megyn than Donald Trump and those numbers prove it," Christie concluded.

Internet back Chris Christie's stance on Donald Trump during GOP debate

Several Internet users backed Christie's take on Trump during the fourth GOP debate and took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions.

"@ChrisChristie out there doing God’s work," a supporter wrote. "@ChrisChristie you my good sir, are % correct," another added.

"Chris Christie speaking truth about Trump AND the other three Rep. Candidates on that Debate Stage," a third commented.

One said, "Good for Christie. The only candidate consistently going after Trump on things that matter"

While another added, "Well, Chris Christie just proved he's still in this race to hurt Donald Trump, not win any prizes. He knows that Trump is bad for America. Good for him."
