WASHINGTON, DC: Former Barack Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau claimed on Monday, July 8, that while 81-year-old Joe Biden is defying calls to withdraw his reelection campaign, "voters have been voicing" concerns about him for months.

In a post on X, Favreau disputed Biden's assertion that there are only "elite" sources calling for his resignation. He cited a New York Times/Siena College pre-debate poll that revealed 64% of voters overall, including 48% of those who intended to vote for Biden, wanted the Democratic nominee to be replaced by someone else, and 69% of voters believed Biden was too old to be a successful president.

Jon Favreau says this is 'not an elite thing'

"This is not an elite thing. This is not a media thing. This is not a one-bad-debate-freakout thing," Favreau wrote, according to Fox News. "The voters have been voicing these concerns for months now. Denying them or dismissing them is not the way to overcome them," he added.

In addition, Favreau, one of the hosts of 'Pod Save America,' noted that 66% of Hispanic voters and 55% of Black voters desire Biden to be replaced as the nominee.

Joe Biden challenged fellow Democratd to run against him for the nomination

The post was made following Biden's unexpected Monday morning appearance on MSNBC, during which he rejected popular calls for him to withdraw from the presidential contest and challenged other Democrats to challenge him for the nomination.

"I’m getting frustrated by the elites – not you guys – the elites in the party, oh, they know so much more. Any of these guys that don’t think I should run, run against me. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention," Biden said.

Joe Biden urged his party to stop questioning his ability

Later, in a letter sent to congressional Democrats, Biden implored his party to "move forward as a unified party" and steer clear of the debate over whether or not he should give up his reelection campaign in order to defeat former President Donald Trump in their 2024 election rematch.

In the letter, Biden restated his commitment to "staying in this race" and contended that any additional doubt about his eligibility "only helps Trump and hurts us."
