WASHINGTON, DC: President Biden’s campaign released a new advertisement on Friday, June 28, aiming at former President Trump over remarks he made during the first presidential debate.

Biden shared the ad on the social media platform X, declaring, “Donald Trump doesn’t care about you.”

Joe Biden goes after Trump following debate

The 29-second advertisement features clips of Trump from the debate, coupled with text explaining why the Biden campaign views the former president as a threat to democracy. The ad begins with a stark message against a black screen: “Donald Trump doesn’t care about our veterans.”

This is followed by a clip of Trump saying “suckers and losers,” a phrase that has become a significant talking point for the Biden campaign despite Trump’s denials.

Next, the ad claims, “Donald Trump doesn’t care about our democracy,” and cuts to a clip of Trump during the debate, asserting that the US was respected “all over the world” on January 6, 2021—the day a violent mob attacked the Capitol.

The ad further alleges that Trump “doesn’t care about Black families,” showing a clip of him saying, “They’re taking Black jobs,” a remark the campaign claims drew criticism from Black Americans.

Additionally, the campaign argues that Trump is indifferent to reproductive rights, featuring a clip of Trump mentioning his appointment of three Supreme Court justices who “happened to vote in favor of killing Roe v Wade,” which he describes as “a great thing.”

The advertisement concludes with the message, “Donald Trump only cares about himself. And if he wins, he’ll only help himself. Because he doesn’t care about you.”

Joe Biden slammed on social media

The advertisement seemed to backfire on social media.

"If you cared about anyone you would drop out," one posted on X.

"You can't even finish a complete sentence. You belong in a nursing home," another wrote.

"Joe Biden is a lying, demented clown," read another comment.

"[Trump] checked you on every lie you told last night. The world saw how lost you are. Your campaign is over. Find a new job," someone else added.

"The only loser is you, Joe. You lost terribly last night," another chimed in.

Democrats raise concerns

The Biden campaign appears to be engaging in damage control following what many perceived as a poor debate performance. This has sparked panic among Democrats, with increasing calls for Biden to step aside and allow another candidate to challenge Trump in the upcoming election.

Prominent Democratic figures have voiced their concerns. Jon Favreau, a former Obama administration speechwriter and co-host of “Pod Save America,” voiced his dismay, posting on X, “Obviously that debate was a f---ing disaster. We have to beat Donald Trump. We have to have a nominee who can do that."

David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to Obama, noted the widespread shock within the party.

“I think there was a sense of shock, actually, at how he came out at the beginning of this debate. How his voice sounded. He seemed a bit disoriented. He did get stronger as the debate went on,” Axelrod said. “I think you’re going to hear discussions that I don’t know will lead to anything but there are going to be discussions about whether he should continue.”

CNN reporter John King described a “deep, a wide and a very aggressive panic in the Democratic Party” following Biden’s debate performance.

“It started minutes into the debate — and it continues right now,” he explained. “It involves party strategists. It involves elected officials. It involves fundraisers, and they’re having conversations about the president’s performance, which they think was abysmal, which they think will hurt other people down the party ticket, and they’re having conversations about what they should do about it.”

At a campaign rally on Friday, Biden remained defiant in the face of controversy, The Hill reported.

“Whether young or old, here’s what I know. I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. I know how to do this job,” he stated. “I would not be running again if I did not believe with all of my heart and soul that I can do this job because quite frankly, the stakes are too high.”

Biden concluded by saying, “Donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation.”
