LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A Biden-Harris campaign ad featuring Robert De Niro has elicited reactions from both supporters and critics.

The campaign ad, narrated by Hollywood heavyweight Robert De Niro, has sparked a flurry of discussions surrounding the impact of celebrity endorsements in political messaging.

Impact of celebrity endorsements amid Robert De Niro's political ad

On 'Morning Joe,' guest host Katty Kay delved into this topic with Adrienne Elrod, a senior spokesperson for the Biden-Harris 2024 reelection campaign.

Kay probed Elrod about the significance of having a prominent figure like De Niro lend his voice to the campaign's message, particularly in the context of swaying undecided voters and attracting donors.

Elrod emphasized the importance of De Niro's influential platform and his resonance as a native New Yorker, highlighting his ability to effectively contrast the Biden-Harris ticket with the Trump administration.

"It’s incredibly important, of course, Katty because, No. 1, it does break through," Elrod said.

"I mean, Robert De Niro, two-time Academy Award-winner. He’s from New York, he epitomizes the ultimate ability to draw contrast with a fellow New Yorker, but we also with this ad, Katty, want to make sure that the American people understand that as bad as the Trump presidency was in the first go-around, it will be even worse in the second go-around."

Robert De Niro's narration exposes Trump's record

The 30-second ad, accompanied by De Niro's narration, pulls no punches in its critique of Trump, citing his history of promoting violence and his authoritarian tendencies.

"From midnight tweets to drinking bleach to tear-gassing citizens and staging a photo op, we knew Trump was out of control when he was president," De Niro narrates.

Elrod echoed these sentiments, underscoring Trump's clear intentions to consolidate power and exact revenge on his opponents.

"He’s made it very clear that he wants to rule like a dictator," she reiterated.

"He’s made it very clear that if he loses this election there will be a bloodbath and he’s made it very clear that he’s going to use a second term not to fight for the American people, but to seek political revenge on his enemies. So we want to make sure that the American people truly understand that this contrast, truly understand what’s at stake, and you’re going to see a lot more contrast like this coming from us, Katty, in the closing five and a half months between now and the election."

A history of confrontation: De Niro's bold stance provokes Trump's rebuke

Robert De Niro's vocal opposition to Trump is nothing new, as evidenced by his past remarks and public appearances.

In 2016, De Niro called the then-republican presidential nominee a 'punk' and said he wanted to 'punch' him 'in the face'.

During his Tony Awards speech in 2018, the actor straight up said, 'F**k Trump'.

In 2019 during a CNN appearance when De Niro responded to questions about Fox News taking issue with his jabs at Trump.

"This guy should not be president, period," he said.

Trump, in turn, has not shied away from retaliating, labeling De Niro a "loser" and criticizing his personal life in response to the actor's continued criticism.

"De Niro should focus on his life, which is a mess, rather than the lives of others. He has become a total loser, as the world watches, waits and laughs!" Trump wrote at the time.

Social media users weigh in on Trump's response to election loss

Social media erupted with a flurry of reactions following the discussion on 'Morning Joe,' with users expressing a range of opinions on Trump's response to his 2020 election loss

One user wrote, "Yes, he “snapped” when he lost in 2020 and here we are 3 1/2 years later and he still hasn’t recovered or accepted the fact! Truly pathetic and repulsive!!!"

Another said, "Donald Trump is everything I taught my children NOT to do in kindergarten" Nikki Haley who just endorsed Trump. Vote D for Democracy not Dictatorship."

One user replied, "Snapped? Realized he was going to prison!"

One said, "He snapped long before that. He was born 'snapped'."

Another added, "TrumpTrolls triggered by truth."

One user replied, "Because Dump hates losing, even though he does it so much. Even 4 years later Dump still denies he lost, because his fragile ego can't take it."
