Jill Biden trolled after it's revealed she will lead national 'Women for Biden-Harris' campaign
WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden's campaign announced on Wednesday, February 28, the initiation of a comprehensive program named 'Women for Biden-Harris'. The nationwide effort aims to rally and mobilize female voters in support of granting President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris a second term in the White House.
Spearheading this initiative is First Lady Jill Biden, who noted the pivotal role women played in securing Biden's victory in the 2020 elections. With women constituting a crucial segment of the coalition that propelled Biden to victory in 2020, the campaign is determined to reignite and fortify this support base.
Mobilizing female voters
“Women put Joe in the White House four years ago, and women will do it again,” Jill said in a statement. “In our communities, women are the organizers, the planners, the mobilizers. We get things done. That’s exactly why we’re launching ‘Women for Biden’ now because when women organize, we win.”
To mark the onset of Women's History Month, Jill Biden is embarking on a weekend travel blitz across key battleground states crucial for the upcoming presidential election in November. Her itinerary includes stops in Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, and Wisconsin, states pivotal in determining the outcome of the election.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump currently leads the race for the Republican presidential nominee, with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley trailing behind, the Associated Press reported.
Biden's campaign manager, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, emphasized the high stakes for women in this election.
“Americans will face a real choice at the ballot box this November between Joe and Kamala who will stand up and fight for women and their freedoms each and every day, and Donald Trump who is looking to take our rights and freedoms away,” she said in a statement. “Republicans have underestimated the power of women time after time and together, this November, we will make sure that they never make that mistake again,” Rodriguez added.
Reproductive rights and access to women's healthcare are central issues for Biden's campaign and Democrats, especially in light of recent legal developments such as the overturning of Roe v Wade and a controversial ruling by the Alabama Supreme Court regarding embryos produced through in vitro fertilization.
In the 2020 elections, women played a decisive role, with Biden garnering 55% of their vote, according to AP VoteCast data.
While Black women and suburban women formed pillars of Biden's coalition, Trump enjoyed greater support among white women, particularly those without college degrees, according to the AP survey of more than 110,000 voters in that year’s election.
The 'Women for Biden-Harris' initiative will mobilize female volunteers nationwide through organizing calls, campaign surrogates, digital outreach, and targeted advertising.
Social media backlash
The first lady, however, was widely mocked on social media after it emerged that she would be leading the effort.
"Well, she will need to define "women" for us," one quipped on X.
"But what's a woman?" another asked.
"Popcorn time! Another bomb failure!" someone else wrote.
"Stay home, Jill. joe needs his ice cream," another insisted.
