WASHINGTON, DC: The White House has maintained silence on the measures it would take to safeguard the border while expressing "condolences" to Rachel Morin's family.

According to police reports, the 37-year-old mother-of-five was killed by an El Salvadorian immigrant named Victor Antonio Martinez on August 5, 2023, when she was on a hiking trail in Bel Air, Maryland.

White House spokesperson issues statement concerning Rachel Morin's death

"We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Rachel Morin," a White House spokesperson told Fox News, adding "We cannot comment on active law enforcement cases. But fundamentally, we believe that people should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law if they are found to be guilty."

The statement follows the capture of 23-year-old El Salvadorian last week who entered the country illegally and is suspected of being the person responsible for Morin's murder.

A Georgia nursing student was also recently killed by an illegal immigrant

Martinez Hernandez's arrest occurred only a few months after 22-year-old Laken Riley, a nursing student from Georgia, was murdered. Riley was discovered dead after going for a jog near Oconee Forest Park in Athens, Georgia. Jose Antonio Ibarra, the suspect in that instance, is a 26-year-old Venezuelan national who also entered the country illegally.

The White House expressed its sympathies to the family involved in the case, but it did not respond to repeated requests from the outlet for information about the administration's threshold for closing the border or taking more drastic action if the number of comparable murder cases increased.

Investigator in Rachel Morin's murder sounded off about the need for more secure borders

The Maryland sheriff who assisted in the investigation of Morin's murder expressed strong opinions regarding the necessity of more guarded borders.

"He tried to come in legally and he was turned away. And yeah, that didn't deter him because we have such a porous border and he came right through… and this is the result," Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler told Fox News Tuesday, June 18.

Donald Trump blasted Joe Biden in Morin's murder incident

"ANOTHER one of Crooked Joe Biden's Illegal Immigrant Criminals was just charged with raping and murdering ANOTHER innocent American woman! Rachel Morin was on a run in Maryland, just like Laken Riley was in Georgia, when she was brutally killed by an illegal monster who was wanted for murder in El Salvador and fled to the USA because he knew Crooked Joe would let him in," Donald Trump wrote on social media.

"Now Rachel Morin's 5 young children will grow up without their mother because Crooked Joe refuses to shut down the border. As a matter of fact, this week, Biden is preparing to give MASS AMNESTY to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens! This is unsustainable and can't be allowed to continue!" he continued.

"On day one, we will SHUT DOWN THE BORDER and start deporting millions of Biden's Illegal Criminals. We will once again put AMERICANS First and MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN! To Rachel Morin's family and especially her 5 children, May God be with you! DJT," the former president added.

How was Martinez Hernandez captured?

Authorities were able to identify Martinez Hernandez thanks in part to DNA evidence and a police tip, according to investigators. After being located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the native of El Salvador was taken into custody by police while he was having a drink at a neighborhood pub.

Martinez Hernandez is suspected of committing a similar act in El Salvador, but Gahler pointed out that the lack of border protection in that nation allowed Hernandez to enter the United States. "He killed a woman in El Salvador and that's why he fled there, to come here through our open border," Gahler said.

The Maryland sheriff argued that the current situation at the border is a "public safety crisis" that is in desperate need of fixing. "It's just insane that we would allow things like Rachel's murder to happen, and when I say ‘allow it,’ we allowed it by letting him into this country unchallenged," Gahler said, adding "That shouldn't happen to families in our country. This is preventable."

Internet says Biden 'should be charged as an accessory to the crime'

Netizens lashed out at the president for not taking the onus and measures to safeguard the border despite the rise in crimes committed by illegal immigrants in the country. One X user expressed his frustration, "I’m sure the family thank him very much. I’m sure all they could think about was his condolences."

"His fault! He should be charged as an accessory to the crime!," tweeted a user while lambasting Biden. "He's still flying them in by the hundreds, paid for by the open society foundation," added one. "Blood is on his hands," echoed one while another chimed in, "I wish one of these families would sue the s**t out of him!!" "He doesn’t care," commented one.
