MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: The 111th Annual Gala of the New York Young Republican Club (NYYRC) featured former US President Donald J Trump as its keynote speaker on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Cipriani Wall Street in Lower Manhattan, New York.

The gala was a black-tie affair and was broadcast on the Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN).

Other notable speakers of the night included Representative Matt Gaetz and Senator Roger Marshall (M.D).

The former president claimed on the night during his speech that of the many things he will go down in history for, as an unnamed general attested, one of the "bravest" things in history was the half a minute he had spent onstage during the presidential debate in 2016 denying his boasts about groping women.

What did Trump say in his speech?

At the gala on Saturday evening, Trump weirdly attempted to give a profound new perspective on his infamous 2016 "grab 'em by the pu**y" incident, arguing that his management of the public outrage and blowback transcended even the courage of war veterans and combat heroes.

According to a report by The Daily Beast, Trump, who is facing a slew of criminal accusations in connection with the 2020 presidential race, looked nostalgic when he recalled the problems his 2016 presidential campaign faced after he was caught bluntly bragging about non-consensual groping in a leaked 'Access Hollywood' tape.

"We had a meeting when it was looking bad," he added, characterizing the incident as one of many "inescapable situations," and recounting how he was urged to pull out of the campaign only weeks before the election.

The former president continued, “But you know, the next day, or very shortly thereafter, we had the debate… I went onto that stage just a few days later, and a general, who’s a fantastic general, actually said to me, ‘Sir, I’ve been on the battlefield, men have gone down on my left and on my right, I stood on hills where soldiers were killed, but I believe the bravest thing I’ve ever seen was the night you went onto that stage with Hillary Clinton after what happened, and then that woman asked you the first question about it, and (you) said ‘locker room talk.’”

“It’s locker room talk! What the hell?! It’s locker room talk,” Trump said onstage during his speech on Saturday.

While briefly expressing regret for his comments about women during that debate in October 2016, Trump refuted claims that he had made boasts about sexual assault during his "locker room talk".

“I apologize to my family, I apologize to the American people, certainly I’m not proud of it. But this is locker room talk,” he said at the time.

Internet blasts Donald Trump

As the former president looks to consolidate his voter base ahead of the 2024 US general elections, people slammed him for his remarks.

One X user said: “He’s so deeply, deeply troubled."

Another user wrote: "And this guy is leading the Polls as the next President of the United States?"

One user remarked: "This is the most grotesque thing i have ever heard. He will say something worse next week."

One user asked: "How can this deeply deeply sick man be seen as fit to be president? How?"

Another user tweeted: "If he’s such a fantastic general, with easy access to Trump, surely Trump can name him. Just so we can validate this story."

Finally, this X user quipped: "That conversation never happened."
