As navy and red "Gulf of America" hats were set in front of each attendee, Musk tried to get a laugh by dramatically placing both hats on his head. The moment quickly went viral, adding to Musk's ever-growing collection of awkward public moments.

On Wednesday, April 30, Elon Musk stole the spotlight at a Trump administration cabinet meeting with a theatrical gesture that blended humor and political flair. Donning two stacked caps — a red Gulf of America hat perched atop a black DOGE cap — Musk drew a chuckle from President Trump. 

“Elon, I love the double hat,” Trump said, noting that Musk was the only official in the room to wear the promotional headgear placed on the Cabinet Room table. “He’s the only one who can do that and get away with it,” the president quipped.

Musk, quick with a punchline, replied, “Well, Mr President, you know they say I wear a lot of hats! It’s true—even my hat has a hat.”

Though Musk has recently been less present at the White House as he winds down his role leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), he attended the more than two-hour cabinet session, as per the New York Post.

Reflecting on the administration’s first 100 days, he said, “The American people voted for secure borders, safe cities and sensible spending. And that’s what they’ve gotten. A tremendous amount has been accomplished in the first 100 days. I think this could be the greatest administration since the founding of the country.”

Trump returned the praise, thanking Musk for his contributions. “You really have sacrificed a lot and have been treated very unfairly,” he said. Musk responded with a wry smile: “They do like to burn my cars, which is not great.”

Still, Trump reassured him, “The vast majority of people really respect and appreciate you. You’ve opened up a lot of eyes as to what could be done.”
