ATLANTA, GEORGIA: The Georgia district attorney who is pursuing Donald Trump for attempting to rig the 2020 election asserts that she must bring legal action against anybody who breaks the law and calls the idea that the former president's case should be put on hold just because he is a candidate for office "silly."

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis declined to comment when asked if she or her staff had spoken with US Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, who has brought federal charges against Trump in a case involving alleged election meddling, in an interview with The Associated Press.

She also said that more of Trump's eighteen co-defendants in the Georgia case would accept plea agreements, so reducing the number of people who could face trial alongside him.

Fani Willis says Trump’s Georgia case should not pause for the election

To allow the current front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination to defend himself in court in the months, weeks, and even days before the November general election, Willis is requesting that Trump and his co-defendants go on trial in August. According to Trump's attorney, his nomination would be "the most effective election interference in the history of the United States."

Willis dismissed that notion, emphasizing that prosecutors nationwide are always looking into cases involving a variety of offenses and that their investigations do not come to an end just because someone is running for office.

She said, “If the prosecutor finds that they violated the law, they have an ethical duty to bring forth charges and so this is a silly notion to me that because one runs from office that your criminal case would stop.”

Willis has claimed that following the election of Democrat Joe Biden as president in 2020, Trump, attorney Rudy Giuliani, former White House top of staff Mark Meadows, and other others took part in an elaborate plot to rig the results.

Out of the 19 individuals accused, four have entered guilty pleas after agreements with the prosecution. Giuliani, Trump, Meadows, and the remaining defendants have all entered not-guilty pleas.

For the other defendants, Willis and her team have stated that they would want a solitary trial. Judge Scott McAfee of Fulton County Superior Court, who is overseeing the case, has voiced doubts about the notion of trying too many defendants concurrently. Even 12 at once, he remarked earlier this month, may be a stretch.

Internet slams Fani Willis for her statement

Many Trump supporters took a jibe at Fani Willis for her comment on Donald Trump. A user wrote on Twitter, "Trump did nothing wrong" whereas another person said, "Fortunately, Fani doesn’t get the final word."

A person also mentioned, "Of course she does! She is about destroying America and not for justice or even the law. She is a political hack and will soon enough be ran out of office."

However, others agreed with Willis. A user wrote, "Trump should be in prison in time for the election" while one commented, "Name another criminal that will get that luxury. I just noticed that 80 per cent of our population never been in a courthouse don’t even know how it works. Lucky people".

Another person said, "Willis ain't playin' with Trump, he gon' face the music in August."
