WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene's move to remove Speaker Mike Johnson was met with resistance by House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, who said it was 'not the right business model', according to The Hill.

Notably, Comer said on Friday, April 19, during an interview with Fox News’s Martha MacCallum, "Now Mike Johnson walked into a bad situation. It’s gotten a lot worse since he’s been here. But changing Speakers is not the right business model."

Comer's remarks coincide with Greene's growing threats against the Speaker in response to his attempts to assist Ukraine. She obtained at least three GOP co-sponsors and launched the move to vacate against Johnson in late March.

The Republican from Georgia stated earlier this week that she doesn't mind if the 'Speaker's office becomes a revolving door'. She stated that 'we are going to demand it from our Republican leaders' and that she wants 'an 'America First' economy', during an interview with former White House advisor Steve Bannon's 'War Room' podcast.

However, Comer seemed to be in disagreement, stating on Friday that Johnson ought to 'remain Speaker', if not until the conclusion of the current legislative session. 'We can re-huddle and decide which direction to go in next year,' he continued.

Additionally, he said he believed the move to resign, which led to the historic resignation of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, late last year, was a 'mistake'. The action 'really disrupted' the House Republican Conference, he continued, 'in a bad way'.

In response to another question concerning former Speaker Newt Gingrich's recent remark that the move to vacancy was 'totally stupid', Comer appeared to concur, supporting Johnson, given that it would be challenging to get 218 allies.

The lawmaker said, "But right now, as you mentioned, there’s not going to be another candidate that 100 percent of our conference is gonna rally behind."

However, Comer still expressed his disapproval of the Johnson-introduced foreign spending package's elements about help to Ukraine about a week ago.

There has been a lot of pressure on the Speaker to approve further aid for the struggling nation. To the dismay of some conservatives, the House adopted a set of proposals that, among other things, would increase funding to Taiwan, Israel, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific area.

Internet stays divided as Comer denounces Greene’s motion to vacate Speaker

People on the internet stayed divided and had mixed reactions as Marjorie Taylor Greene's move to remove Speaker Mike Johnson was met with resistance by James Comer.

A user wrote on X, "Jamie Raskin & Jasmine Crockett are national treasures. James Comer & Marjorie Taylor Greene are national security threats" while one added, "Marj is a shell company for Putin, isn't that Comer's normal 'business model'?"

A user also wrote, "Republicans have NO BUSINESS MODEL!!!!" whereas one mentioned, "I think there is a misalignment between who @RepJamesComer is SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT and who is buying @RepJamesComer."

A person added, "Then quit doing stupid stuff you knew President Biden didn't do anything wrong yet you keep at it. The only thing it did was piss off a lot of American People because you waste taxpayers money and did nothing else."
