NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The House of Representatives passed foreign aid bills allocating $60.8 billion for Ukraine, $26.4 billion for Israel, and $8 billion for Taiwan and other Indo-Pacific allies on Saturday, April 20.

A fourth bill that seeks to force the sale of TikTok and imposes strong sanctions on Iran, China, and Russia, also passed with overwhelming support, reported ABC News.

The four bills will be sent to the Senate as a package and will be taken up on Tuesday, April 23, according to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. President Joe Biden has promised to sign the bills as soon as they are placed before him.

Speaker Mike Johnson's statement

Bringing the bills to a vote on a floor has been a trying experience for Speaker Johnson, who risked his job facing opposition from hardliners such as Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga).

Speaking to reporters after the bills were passed, he said, "The House has worked its will. These are not normal times here in the House or around the world. The world is destabilized and is a tinder box. It's a dangerous time."

"Three of our primary adversaries - Russia, Iran, and China are working together, and they are being aggressors around the globe, and they are a global threat to our prosperity and our security," continued Johnson. "Their advance threatens the free world and it demands American leadership. If we turn our backs right now, the consequences could be devastating."

Internet reacts to Mike Johnson's statement

Speaker Johnson shared the clip of his statement to the press over the social media platform X, writing in his post, "The House has worked its will. We gave our members a voice, provided them with a better process, and ultimately sent a much better policy to the Senate."

In response, netizens slammed him for prioritizing funding foreign wars over solving domestic issues and called for his resignation along the lines of the far-right members of the House GOP.

"You’re the biggest POS America-last fraud I’ve ever seen," wrote a user.

"You have betrayed the American people. Vacate the chair. You work for America not Ukraine," stated another.

"Speaker Johnson, your betrayal is not just disgraceful, but also a blatant breach of the public trust. Your resignation is imperative, and you must be held accountable for your egregious actions. Shameful!" exclaimed a third.

"You sold us out, allowed members to waive a foreign flag on the House floor while chanting 'Ukraine'. We will remember. November can’t come soon enough," commented a fourth.

"This is the worst republican controlled house in American History," jibed a fifth.
