NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Thomas Massie (R-Ky) announced that he would co-sponsor Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-Ga) motion to dismiss Mike Johnson (R-La) from his position of House Speaker on Tuesday, April 16.

According to The Hill, Massie broke the news to House GOP members during a closed-door conference meeting and became the first legislator to publicly join Greene's effort as he shared the news on X later in the day.

"I just told Mike Johnson in conference that I’m cosponsoring the Motion to Vacate that was introduced by @RepMTG. He should pre-announce his resignation (as Boehner did), so we can pick a new Speaker without ever being without a GOP Speaker," read the tweet.

The announcement came less than 24 hours after Johnson outlined his plan to move foreign aid through the House, which includes voting on three separate bills to send assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, and a fourth that deals with other national security priorities.

Greene retweeted Massie's post on Tuesday, thanking him for supporting her motion.

"Speaker Mike Johnson has thrown our GOP conference into chaos by serving the Democrats and passing Biden’s agenda," she wrote. "Last week, Speaker Johnson shoved warrantless spying on Americans down our throats with FISA. Now, Speaker Johnson is going to fund foreign wars while refusing to force Schumer to hold a trial to impeach Mayorkas and demanding Joe Biden sign HR 2 into law."

"Speaker Johnson must announce a resignation date and allow Republicans to elect a new Speaker to put America First and pass a Republican agenda," continued the Congresswoman, adding, "Thank you to @RepThomasMassie for cosponsoring my Motion to Vacate. It’s time for a new Speaker."

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

Netizens shared their support for removing Speaker Johnson while responding to Greene's post, as the following tweets demonstrate.

"Speaker Johnson was worse then McCarthy and he was pathetic. Move to Vacate and if you cannot elect anyone then all the better! No Leader is better than Speaker Johnson!" exclaimed a user.

"Mike Johnson is a Democrat. House Republicans should pick a Republican to lead as Speaker or they should leave the Speaker's chair vacant," stated another.

"Speaker Johnson is the best Democrat in the Republican Party," jibed a third.

"Send him packing. He’s useless," commented a fourth user.

"How much time before you vacate? This should have been done before the FISA vote? Don’t give him any time to do more damage," mentioned a fifth.
