Internet divided as Leo Terrell claims goal of hush money trial is 'to inflict political damage' on Trump
NEW YORK CITU, NEW YORK: In a recent dialogue on Fox News between Harris Faulkner and legal analyst Leo Terrell, the latter expressed strong opinions regarding the ongoing legal proceedings against former President Donald Trump.
Terrell asserted that the goal of the legal proceedings was not justice or legality but rather to inflict political damage on Trump.
Leo Terrell criticizes gag order as an attack on Trump's election chances
Faulkner asked, "How would you describe what's going on?", to which Terrell replied, "Very simple, Harris. The goal of this legal proceeding is to inflict as much political damage on President Trump. That's the whole purpose of it."
He added, "This is an attempt to harm President Trump's election chances in November 2024. Nothing more, nothing less."
One point of contention highlighted by Terrell was the use of a gag order and the potential unconstitutionality of such measures.
He criticized the notion of punishing someone for future violations, likening it to tactics used in authoritarian regimes rather than in a democratic system.
Terrell told Faulkner, "It doesn't make a difference if Michael Cohen can basically say whatever he wants. The goal is to hurt Trump's chances to win this election. It's not going to work."
Terrell expressed skepticism about the proceedings, questioning the constitutionality of certain actions and highlighting concerns about the potential for bias.
He added, "The public realizes this, but that's the whole goal of this proceeding. Well, the part that caught my ear is how do you put somebody in jail for future violations? I mean, that sounds like a state that a nation that is not run by a president, not even a dictator, but a terrorist."
"Harris, I have never in my 35 years of practicing law seen any legal proceeding such as the one we're witnessing right now."
"And this judge, I think he's compromised. It'll be quite interesting to see what his ruling will be on the gag order. You think the judge is compromised? He's compromised because he should have been recused from this case," Terrell added.
Terrell raised eyebrows with his assertion that the judge "cannot be impartial given the fact of his daughter, given the fact of his situation with the district attorney and how he was selected for this particular case. You know, I mentioned before, I mean, it feels like legal terrorism.."
The conversation also touched on the contentious nature of the legal process, with Terrell likening it to "legal terrorism" and expressing frustration at what he perceived as a lack of fairness and transparency.
Concluding, Terrell said, "The judge is hostile to President Trump. He has a dislike towards President Trump. And I'll tell you right now, the fix is in."
