LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Leo Terrell, a vocal supporter of Donald J Trump, has ignited a firestorm on the Internet with his impassioned opening statement for the upcoming trial against the ex-President.

On April 21, Terrell took to Twitter to share a video where he outlined what he would present as Trump's attorney in the trial, fiercely asserting Trump's innocence and denouncing the credibility of key witness Michael Cohen.

Leo Terrell unleashes 'Leo 2.0' in fiery defense of Trump

In the video, Terrell introduced himself as "Leo 2.0," emphasizing his unwavering support for Trump and labeling the trial as a "sham" against the former president. He wasted no time in launching into a scathing critique of Cohen, branding him as a "liar" and stating, "The state key witness is a liar. His name is Michael Cohen." Terrell listed off Cohen's numerous transgressions, including being a convicted felon, a perjurer before Congress, and a disbarred attorney.

Terrell's rhetoric was forceful and unequivocal as he sought to undermine Cohen's credibility in the eyes of the jury and the public. He painted Cohen as an untrustworthy individual with a history of deceit, noting, "Every time this guy raises his right hand, he lies."

Throughout his statement, Terrell remained steadfast in his defense of Trump, asserting that there was no evidence or documentation to support the charges against him. He portrayed the trial as a baseless attack on the former president, driven by political motives rather than genuine concerns about justice. Terrell asserted, "The facts against Donald J Trump is frivolous."

Trump's landmark trial: Intersection of legal history and politics

According to The Guardian, the trial case involving Donald Trump's alleged hush-money payments commences on Monday, marking a significant milestone in US legal history as Trump becomes the first former or sitting president to face criminal proceedings. The trial coincides with the 2024 presidential race, where Trump is poised to be the Republican nominee against Joe Biden.

At the heart of the trial is whether Trump's purported attempts to conceal damaging information regarding extramarital affairs, aimed at bolstering his 2016 election campaign, constitute criminal activity.

Trump's charges and multi-faceted battle ahead

The charges, brought in spring 2023, include 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg contends that Trump misrepresented a $130,000 payment made by his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to adult film star Stormy Daniels as legitimate legal expenses.

Cohen, who previously pleaded guilty in 2018, is expected to testify as a key witness for the prosecution. Trump maintains his innocence, denying any encounter with Daniels and asserting that payments to Cohen were lawful.

This trial is one of several legal battles Trump faces, including federal charges related to the January 6 insurrection and mishandling classified documents, as well as state-level charges in Georgia concerning the 2020 election.

Internet reacts to Leo Terrell's performance

The Internet was abuzz with reactions to Leo Terrell's impassioned defense of Donald Trump.

One user wrote, "Keep practicing, Leo. You may make a good lawyer someday. You just will never be employed as such by Donald Trump."

Another added, "Leo is now pretending to be a lawyer for Trump…. It’s nap time Leo."

One user commented, "…You know you’re not his defense attorney, right?"

One said, "So Trump didn’t use funds to pay off a porn star and try to hide it that’s against the law."

Another replied, "Auditions to represent trump at one of his up coming trials."
