Internet divided as MGT slams gender-affirming care for trans youth, urges Congress to pass her bill
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) on Wednesday night reposted a video of a child undergoing transition and outraged on X (formerly, Twitter) by tweeting, “This is child abuse!! Congress must pass my bill Protect Children’s Innocence Act to make it illegal to perform this on children!!!”
The video depicted an 11-year-old child named, Josie, being treated with puberty blockers as part of gender-affirming care as a doctor recommended the child and her mother of the subsequent steps of the youth’s transition journey.

Marjorie Taylor Greene has represented Georgia’s 14th congressional district since 2021 and the Republican congresswoman has become a household name in her first term for her headline-grabbing antics and hardline stances on abortion, gender issues, and border security.
Greene's bill, Protect Children's Innocence Act introduced in August 2022, makes more than a dozen medical interventions and procedures used to treat gender dysphoria in transgender youths illegal, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and certain surgeries performed "for the purpose of changing the body of such individual to correspond to a sex that differs from their biological sex."
What does Marjorie Taylor Greene’s bill entail?
Gender-affirming healthcare is widely recognized as a safe, effective, and medically necessary treatment for transgender individuals, both adults and youths.
Leading medical associations have affirmed that social transition is the only acceptable form of gender-affirming care for transgender minors who have not yet reached puberty and that this may include utilizing a different name or pronouns or wearing gender-affirming clothing.

These guidelines have been established by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health and the Endocrine Society, both of which are highly regarded in the medical community, per a report by The Hill.
According to Greene's bill, federal funding cannot be used for gender-affirming medical care, not even for plans under the Affordable Care Act.

The proposed legislation would also hand down draconian penalties to healthcare providers who continue to treat transgender youths, including 10 to 25 years in prison and fines totaling up to $250,000.
While Greene's legislation is the first of its sort at the federal level, the American Civil Liberties Union reports that at least two dozen states are considering similar laws, with over 100 state bills introduced last year addressing transgender health care.
Greene remarked last year, “I don’t know about you, but when it comes to kids, I think the Republican Party has a duty. We have a responsibility, and that is to be the party that protects children.”
Internet stands divided over Marjorie Taylor Greene's bill she's been trying to pass since 2022
People on X served up mixed reactions and opinions under the Georgia congresswoman's tweet on Wednesday night targeting gender-affirming care for trans youths.

Why aren't you for Parents' Rights?
Another user asked, "Does congress even know you work there? Your record on passing bills has to be 0-For The Century. U should also try finding your awareness because I actually think that you think you look all courageous and patriotic by posting about all these bills (that some assistant wrote for you) and acting like you are making changes and at the tip of the spear of this anti establishment movement.
"When in reality you don’t do a fu**in thing throughout the day and haven’t made one iota of a difference to the country nor will you ever. Congrats someone gave u a platform and got you a spot in DC so they could hit their DEI quota. You look like a complete fool bragging about bills that will never get read or looked at by another human being. Hey everyone I just performed my job today - come gather around and witness sub mediocrity!! Fu**in loser".
