LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Stephen Colbert expressed his relief to the audience on 'The Late Show,' saying he was glad to take a break from covering Donald Trump's ongoing New York City fraud trial, which is paused for the rest of the week.

This respite allowed Colbert to delve into other Trump-related news, humorously highlighting something more surprising to find in the former president's bedroom than additional classified documents. Amidst his commentary, Colbert also managed to sneak in a playful jab at the CBS series 'Tracker.'

A surprising repository for classified documents

"Donald Trump's classified documents trial, that one baby is really heating up," Colbert quipped during his monologue. "Turns out that scandal is exactly much worse than we could have thought, because we just learned that his lawyers found classified documents in Donald Trump's bedroom, four months after the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago."

"Oh my God, the only thing more shocking to find in Donald Trump's bedroom would be a current wife," Colbert wryly added.

Highlighting the absurdity of the situation, Colbert continued, "These documents spent as much as four months right next to Donald Trump's bed. Explains why the stamp changed from classified to 'kill me.'"

Colbert's courtroom humor and Trump's tall tales

Colbert then updated his audience on how a US District Judge had previously criticized Trump for this, joking, "Now, to be fair, Trump rarely goes into his bedroom. As we've recently learned, he does most of the sleeping in court."

Later in his monologue, Colbert poked fun at Trump's latest falsehood regarding the raid to recover classified documents.

"There was one detail the conservatives have jumped on just to try to change the subject. The search warrant for the second raid down at Mar-a-Lago had language authorizing the use of deadly force 'in appropriate circumstances,' which is boilerplate procedural texts used by the FBI," Colbert quipped.

"Which obviously I know because I work at CBS, home of FBI, FBI Most Wanted, FBI International, and FBI: Tracker," Colbert playfully remarked. "Tracker: He'll find four more FBI shows."

Social Media reactions

Users on social media platforms share their humorous takes and insightful comments on the unfolding scandal surrounding Trump's classified documents, showcasing a mix of clever wordplay and keen observations.

One user wrote, "Trumps bathroom/classified documents scandal should be titled, “Bed, bath & beyond a reasonable Doubt ” lol."

Another added, "A Trump adviser scanning classified documents and storing them on a personal laptop? The Docs case just got worse. Much worse than just obstruction."

One replied, "Interestingly enough, Trump was not even at Mar A Lago the day the FBI arrived."

One said, "Of course Donnie had documents in his bedroom... but this bedtime story does not have a happy ending for him... of any kind..."

One added, "How could Stephen forget this one?! There's a case of someone marrying an animal, & the person who married the animal is named Melania Trump."

One replied, "A "current wife in trump's bedroom", priceless."
