MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: President Joe Biden has made a statement indicating his conviction that Donald Trump was involved in the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol.

The President expressed his agreement with the decision of the Colorado Supreme Court Justices who prevented Trump from appearing on the 2024 presidential ballot.

In his first public statement since the ruling, President Biden asserted that the decision is now for the Supreme Court to make, regarding whether or not Trump has violated the 14th Amendment and should be prohibited from holding public office, according to the Daily Mail.

In response to the decision, Republicans nationwide expressed outrage and vowed to remove President Biden from their ballots as revenge.

Political strategists also suggested that the ruling would increase Trump's chances of winning the presidency in 2024.

The ruling was made by a 4-3 decision by Democratic-appointed justices, who concluded that Trump's actions constituted an insurrection on January 6, thereby disqualifying him from running for public office.

This ruling marks the first instance in history that the insurrection clause has been used to prevent a candidate from appearing on a state's presidential ballot.

What did Joe Biden say regarding the Colorado SC ruling?

During a recent visit to the political battleground state of Wisconsin, on Wednesday, December 20, President Biden refrained from delving into the legal specifics of a case that has garnered national attention.

When questioned by reporters regarding the matter, Biden went on to assert that his opponent supported an insurrection, saying, “I think it’s self-evident. You saw it all.”

With respect to the applicability of the 14th Amendment, the President expressed his willingness to let the court make that determination, “Now whether the 14th Amendment applies, I’ll let the (Supreme) court make that decision.”

Biden continued, “But he certainly supported an insurrection. There’s no question about it. None. Zero.”

The incumbent added about his rival, “He seems to be doubling down on everything.”

It is worth noting that President Biden won the state of Wisconsin in the 2020 election, as well as Colorado, where he had won by a margin of 13 points.

President Biden’s opinion on the contentious ruling has sparked political tensions in Washington.

While his administration strives to avoid involvement in matters concerning the Justice Department and the courts in relation to former President Trump, Biden decided to provide his input on Tuesday’s ruling.

However, he refrained from offering his perspective on certain technicalities behind the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision-making.

Specifically, he did not comment on whether Trump should be considered an “officer” of the United States in a passage that does not explicitly mention him or whether a single state should have the ability to enact measures that have significant impacts on the country's electoral process as a whole.

What did the Colorado Supreme Court decree against Donald Trump?

The Colorado Supreme Court, with a majority of four out of seven judges, issued a ruling against former President Donald Trump regarding insurrection, which is a crucial aspect of the ballot test.

The court arrived at this decision by concurring with a previous ruling by a lower District Court.

The Colorado Supreme Court found that the District Court's determination that January 6, 2021, constituted an “insurrection” was correct and free of error.

The court came to this conclusion by citing former President Trump's speech on January 6, 2021, during which he urged a group of supporters to “fight like hell.”

The court ruled that this speech did not qualify as protected speech under the First Amendment, thereby undermining another argument made by Trump that his statements on that day were protected speech.

The events of that day led to a mob storming the Capitol while Congress was holding a session to count the electoral votes.

The indictment filed by Special Counsel Jack Smith in federal court in the District of Columbia includes Trump's remarks, as well as a comprehensive plan including “fake electors” and other measures to overturn the vote.

The Supreme Court must also rule on that case, determining whether Trump's scheduled March 4 trial date can proceed.

Biden's remarks echoed those of numerous prominent Democrats, including former impeachment manager Rep Jamie Raskin (D-Md. ), who teaches constitutional law and is the senior Democrat and GOP adversary on the House Oversight Committee.

“If the (Supreme) Court takes remotely seriously its profession of faith in original intent and textualism, then it will have to affirm the ruling," said Raskin.

The Maryland congressman added, “The original meaning ... is precisely to forbid people who have betrayed their oath by trying to overthrow the constitutional order.”

In retaliation, Republicans are using the verdict to try to remove Biden from the ballot in their respective states.

"Remove Biden from the Florida ballot now!" urged Anthony Sabatini, a Republican House candidate and former state representative in Florida.

According to Newsweek, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has called for Biden to be removed from his state's electoral battle due to the border situation.

“Seeing what happened in Colorado makes me think—except we believe in democracy in Texas—maybe we should take Joe Biden off the ballot in Texas for allowing eight million people to cross the border since he's been president disrupting our state,” Patrick told Fox News.

'Let the court decide Donald Trump's fate'

People on X expressed their opinions and concerns and also stated that the US Supreme Court should have its say on the ruling that has been challenged by the Trump campaign team.

One X user wrote, "Mr. Trump's thoughtless remarks led to a riot at the U.S. Capitol, which resulted in the loss of five precious lives. May God bless you. Amen."

Another user declared, "Biden can not win."

"So after the Colorado ruling pulling Trump from the ballot, you now have a sitting president say a former president committed a crime he was never convicted of and now two more blue states jumping in to do the same - New York and California. This is not democracy," another user stated.

"We'll have President Trump back in the White House soon enough. He can then take his revenge on the current POTUS and the other democrats. Trump 2024," one user wrote.

Another X user remarked, "Self evident even though Trump along with not a single person that was at J6 have been ever charged and letalone convicted of inciting an insurrection. Trump should sue him for defamation."

One user tweeted, "Dictator Joe."
