What are the events covered under the Seniors for Biden-Harris program?

To kick off the initiative, the campaign is organizing a variety of events, including a phone bank event with Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff in New Hampshire, a pickleball tournament in Virginia, a pancake breakfast in Georgia, and a bingo night in Arizona.

According to Biden's campaign, they will also be investing in advertisements during programming that seniors would typically watch, including game shows like 'The Price is Right', 'Wheel of Fortune,' and 'Jeopardy' and also morning television shows like ABC’s 'Good Morning America' and NBC’s 'Today.'

On Wednesday, June 12, Jaime Harrison, the Democratic National Committee chair will host a national grassroots call with seniors to launch the program.

Joe Biden campaign's focus on seniors is a crucial voting bloc

Seniors are a critical demographic in the 2024 election with historically high voter turnout compared to other age groups.

The president is leading Donald Trump by five points in polls among voters aged 65 and older with 45 percent supporting Biden compared to Trump's 40 percent, according to a recent polling data from May’s New York Times/ Siena College national poll.

Meanwhile, lowering health care costs for seniors is a major area of focus of Biden's campaign.

One of the key highlights is the Democrats’ signature Inflation Reduction Act which includes a $35 cap on insulin and allows Medicare to negotiate with drug companies.

Campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said that “America’s seniors know that they can’t trust their hard-earned Social Security and Medicare in the hands of convicted felon Donald Trump."

"And they deserve better than the guy proudly running to increase seniors’ health care and prescription drug costs," she added.

"Another Trump presidency would be an absolute nightmare for America’s seniors, which is why Seniors for Biden-Harris will be critical to beating Donald Trump once again," read the statement.
