NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Donald Trump, under the constraints of a gag order imposed by Judge Juan Merchan, has once again ignited controversy with apparent violations, stirring a social media storm just days before his New York criminal trial.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump lambasted former prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, who previously led the Manhattan District Attorney Office’s investigation into Trump’s hush money payments.

Flouting the gag order

Donald Trump questioned whether Pomerantz had faced prosecution for alleged misconduct, breaching the boundaries set by the gag order. Trump's post read, "Has Mark POMERANTZ been prosecuted for his terrible acts...?"

"Has Mark POMERANTZ been prosecuted for his terrible acts in and out of the D.A.’s Office?" Trump posted on Saturday, April 13. "Has disgraced attorney and felon Michael Cohen been prosecuted for LYING? Only TRUMP people get prosecuted by this Judge and these thugs! A dark day for our Country. MAGA2024!!!" he added.

This isn't the first time Trump has skirted the edges of the gag order, having previously labeled Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels, both potential witnesses, as "sleaze bags".

Michael Cohen claps back at Donald Trump

Michael Cohen, Trump's ex-attorney and a pivotal figure in the hush money trial, promptly responded to the former president's attack with his own social media retort. He questioned when Trump's actions would warrant consequences, writing, "When does enough become enough and the petulant man child gets a time out in lockup for his bad behavior?"

Trump’s social media outburst didn’t spare Judge Juan Merchan, whom he accused of being "totally conflicted and corrupt," insinuating bias in the case.

Additionally, Trump alleged that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, purportedly backed by George Soros, initiated the trial to aid President Joe Biden's reelection—a claim not covered by the gag order.

The gag order stemmed from Trump’s history of baseless accusations against Merchan, Bragg, Cohen, and even Merchan’s family members, portraying his legal battles as politically motivated attacks to sway the election.

Central to the case is Cohen's testimony regarding a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, allegedly to conceal an affair she had with Trump, which the ex-POTUS is accused of covering up with falsified business records.

Cohen himself faced prosecution for charges including making false statements and campaign finance violations, resulting in a three-year prison sentence.

Michael Cohen faces backlash after he slams Donald Trump

Disgraced ex-attorney Michael Cohen faced quite a backlash on social media for his latest comments against his former boss.

"Boo Hoo! Get over yourself!" one user posted on X.

"I hope you enjoy what's gonna happen to you. I know the rest of us will," another chimed in.

"The gag order is in place so he can't comment on you and Stormy cooking this entire sham up to cover up your own affair," someone else alleged.

"You get to go on television and social media and lie on him and dog him and you cry when he jumps back? You know we know why you’re doing this and just remember. Every conman has his day. I’ll be happy when you are back in prison," another offered.

This isn’t Trump's first brush with repercussions for disregarding legal constraints. In a prior trial, he was fined $10,000 for similar infractions.

Following his New York indictment, a cascade of charges in other jurisdictions followed, including accusations of retaining classified documents, subverting the 2020 election, and racketeering.

While the New York case progresses swiftly, Trump’s other legal battles face hurdles, with delays attributed to procedural issues, appeals, and allegations of impropriety against prosecutors, the Associated Press reported.
