NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Adult film actress Stormy Daniels caused a stir on social media as she revealed her intention to testify in the upcoming criminal trial of former President Donald Trump in New York.

Facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to alleged hush money payments made to Daniels, Trump finds himself at the center of a legal storm, making history as the first former president to confront criminal charges.

Insights from Stormy Daniels' podcast

In a recent episode of her podcast, 'Beyond the Norm,' released on Sunday, January 14, Daniels provided insights into the upcoming trial, stating, "Obviously, things have been next-level crazy, since I am set to testify in, at this point in time, March. Obviously, that can change any moment — in the hush money case."

Trump's charges, filed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, hinge on allegations that he disguised reimbursements associated with the hush money payment as a monthly legal retainer. This purportedly led to 34 false entries in New York business records, marking a significant legal challenge for the former president.

The legal saga traces back to Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen, who pleaded guilty in 2018 to orchestrating the hush money payment under Trump's direction, with the primary goal of influencing the 2016 presidential election.

Trump, maintaining his innocence, has pleaded not guilty to all 91 felony counts across four indictments, denouncing the cases as a form of "political persecution," per The Hill.

Daniels' allegations and Trump's denials

Daniels, born Stephanie Clifford, claims to have first encountered Trump in July 2006 at a golf tournament in Lake Tahoe. Alleging an affair, Daniels contends that Trump invited her to his hotel suite, where they engaged in a sexual encounter.

Despite her claims, Trump vehemently denies any such relationship and has repeatedly refuted Daniels' version of events.

The adult film star attempted to share her story in 2011 with InTouch Weekly magazine, but the article was withheld following threats from Cohen. It only saw the light of day in 2018 when reports of the alleged affair became public knowledge.

When Daniels sought to reveal her story again in 2016, Cohen paid her $130,000 in exchange for signing a non-disclosure agreement, mere days before the 2016 presidential election. Court filings later revealed a series of reimbursement instalments from the Trump Organization to Cohen.

Daniels, undeterred by legal obstacles, filed a lawsuit against Trump, focusing on a tweet where he dismissed her claim of being threatened in 2011. However, federal Judge S. James Otero dismissed the lawsuit, deeming Trump's tweet as "rhetorical hyperbole" protected by the First Amendment.

Daniels attempted to appeal in 2022, citing that her then-attorney Michael Avenatti filed the defamation suit "without my permission and against my wishes". Despite her efforts, a judge ruled against her, leaving her responsible for nearly $300,000 in Trump's legal fees, per NPR.

Internet reacts to Stormy Daniels' comment on upcoming trial

Social media was inundated with reactions after Daniels revealed she was "set to testify" against Trump in court.

"Did she pay him the $$$ she owes him?" one posted on X (formerly Twitter).

"Unbelievable! Her 15 minutes is over. Exit stage left!" another wrote.

"It wouldn't be a proper show trial without her," someone else quipped.

"Wow. She just can't seem to get enough fame," another reacted.
