MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: New York Attorney General Letitia James spoke to the press after closing arguments in Donald Trump's civil fraud trial, declaring nobody is "above the law."

The $370 million New York civil fraud trial against the former President and his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, wrapped up on Thursday, January 11. According to Reuters, Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron is expected to issue the final ruling by January 31.

Thanking the judge, her team, and the opposing counsel, James emphasized, "No matter how powerful you are, no matter how rich you are, no one is above the law and that the law applies to all of us equally and fairly."

The NYAG filed her findings on the fraud trial against the Republican frontrunner and his two sons on January 5, claiming they inflated the net worth of his properties "while concealing the fraud from counterparties."

The judge has ruled Trump liable for fraud. The final verdict will determine a $370 million penalty and a potential lifetime ban from the state's real estate industry.

Trump is scheduled to testify in the civil fraud trial that alleges that he and his two sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump conspired to inflate his net worth on financial statements provided to banks and insurers to secure loans. Despite being in a myriad of legal battles, the former President dominates the Republican primary opinion polls with a sizeable domination. He is also anticipating a victory in the January 15 Iowa caucus, kickstarting the election year.

Letitia James says the case was not about 'personal vendetta'

James stood firm on her findings of fraud that Trump and his sons committed in the state.

"This case has never been about politics or personal vendetta or about name -calling. This case is about the facts and the law," the NYAG said.

Emphasizing that the former President violated the law for repeated fraud, which the judges had already found true, she said she was not bothered by the personal attacks against her.

"The fact is that this trial has shown and we have produced evidence about the scope, the scale, the depth, the breadth of the illegality, the fraud that impersonally enriched Donald Trump and his family," James added.

Slamming the trial, Trump's attorney, Alina Habba, labeled the case as "garbage claims" and that her client should be paid for "damages" for defending.

NYC and other cities are bracing for a possible indictment of former President Donald Trump by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg in his investigation into the former president's involvement in a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election.

She also alleged that James coordinated with the Biden administration and instigated a "political agenda" to interfere in the upcoming presidential election, which is expected to be a Biden-Trump rematch.
