ATLANTA, GEORGIA: A wave of chaos erupted online as Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis weighed in on possible Donald Trump imprisonment, stating that the former President should not expect "a special break" on sentencing.

The 77-year-old leading GOP presidential contender has been facing 13 felony charges in Fulton County over his alleged efforts to subvert the 2020 election in Georgia.

Willis previously proposed a start date of August 5, 2024, for the trial of Trump and his co-defendants in the Georgia election interference case.

Addressing the trial, the 52-year-old prosecutor told CNN that if a jury finds Trump guilty in the end, he will be sentenced to an "appropriate" term regardless of his "status".

She made the remarks while attending a 'Shaq-a-Thon' charity event in Atlanta, where she distributed toys to children alongside former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal.

"I think that everyone in society is the same, and I don't know why that's such a difficult concept for people," Willis said when asked if Trump could face prison time.

"You can look at the charges, and based on those charges, we'll be recommending appropriate sentences. No one gets a special break because of their status,” she added, according to Daily Beast.

What did Fani Willis say about Donald Trump’s sentence?

In addition, Willis stated that the prosecution of Trump and the other defendants would require "a while" to complete, citing the fact that "the judicial process is a long process" despite the public's demand for "instant gratification."

Willis has hinted that Trump could be sentenced to prison before the Presidential election, according to Newsweek. She allegedly advised defense counsel in an email conversation from November that they should prepare for "a long road ahead" with legal careers that go "long after these folks are in jail."

If Trump is found guilty of all charges in Georgia, he could receive a sentence of more than 70 years in prison. In three other criminal proceedings, he is facing an additional 78 felonies, which together could result in a maximum term of several hundred years in jail.

Willis’ remarks came just a few days after House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and a subcommittee chairman on the House Administration Committee announced that they would be investigating any "cooperation" between District Attorney, and the former House January 6 committee.

However, some users voiced their support for Willis. “I love this DA. Tough. Ambitious. Assertive. Confident. Determined. No nonsense, brilliant black beauty. No one is above the LAW. Chain them all up, DA Fanni,” one user praised.

“God help us if Trump walks free. No one is above the law. Fani Willis did her job and Congress needs to do theirs. The Supreme Court needs to stop rigging our laws,” one more user said.

“Fani Willis is a hero. And one of the most patriotic Americans alive today,” another user said.
