King Charles and Queen Camilla will make their joint appearance next week

The Palace disclosed that King Charles and Queen Camilla will make their first joint appearance at a cancer treatment center next Tuesday, April 30, as they mark the beginning of his return to public-facing engagements.

They will also be hosting the Emperor and Empress of Japan for a state visit in June.

"As the first anniversary of the Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year," read the statement issued by the Palace.

The statement comes along with a new photo of the royal couple on Friday, April 26, to announce the monarch's return.

Despite being absent from public engagements amid his ongoing battle with cancer, Charles has remained active behind the scenes as he has received audiences at Buckingham Palace and attended various events.

Inside King Charles' cancer diagnosis

In February, the palace announced that Charles had been diagnosed with cancer and underwent a procedure related to an enlarged prostate.

"During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer," the Palace stated at the time.

"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties," the Palace added.

"Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual," the statement concluded.

A month after Charles' cancer diagnosis was revealed, his daughter-in-law Kate Middleton disclosed her own cancer diagnosis and shared that she was seeking treatment.

The Duchess, who remains under medical care, has been absent from public events since December.
