Internet prays for ‘very unwell’ King Charles as monarch’s funeral plans are updated amid cancer battle
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: King Charles’ health is reportedly deteriorating every day, forcing Buckingham Palace to regularly update his impending funeral preparations.
The 75-year-old monarch has cut down on his public events since his cancer diagnosis was announced in February this year.
“Of course he is determined to beat it and they are throwing everything at it. Everyone is staying optimistic, but he is really very unwell. More than they are letting on,” a source told the Daily Beast.
What is Operation Menai Bridge?
King Charles’ aides are regularly reviewing copies of a several hundred-page document and fine-tuning his royal funeral plans, called 'Operation Menai Bridge'.
Operation Menai Bridge is the code name given to King Charles’ funeral plans. It is in line with the 10-day plan dubbed 'Operation London Bridge', which was the code name for his mother, Queen Elizabeth’s funeral plan.
It is also a protocol to keep a funeral plan in handy for whoever rules the throne, which means the plan was activated the day Charles was declared king.
The former Prince of Wales’ death plan is named after the suspension bridge that connects the island of Anglesey with the Welsh mainland.
In case of Charles' immediate death, his eldest son Prince William will be crowned King, and his wife Kate Middleton will serve as queen consort.
"The plans have been dusted off and are actively being kept up to date. It’s no more than what you would expect given the king has been diagnosed with cancer. But the circulation of them has certainly focused minds,” a former staffer with insight into the serving courtiers told the outlet.
Internet sends wishes as King Charles' health deteriorates
The Internet was flooded with messages for the monarch.
One person said, "His reign could be one of the shortest, on the heels of his mum's, which was the longest. Rare juxtaposition. Thank goodness for William."
"Lord, prayers for the healing of King Charles and Princess Catherine, In Jesus Name, Amen," the second said.
"There are many reasons I dislike this man, but I hope he does recover. The Brits, like us, need some stability," commented an online user.
"He seems to have grown into being a decent man," wrote one.
A person said, "It's standard procedure to have the current monarch's funeral plans in place. I'm sure they have plans already drawn up for Prince William too."
"Dang. Quite the mess over there in the UK. Prayers for all of them," one person pointed.
