WASHINGTON, DC: As Republicans adjust their strategy following President Joe Biden's recent announcement that he is stepping down from the 2024 race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor, a storm of controversy has erupted over disparaging comments made by right-wing figures.

Some of the comments included making baseless and sexist claims accusing Harris of 'sleeping' her way to the top and leveraging her gender and race for career advancement.

Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly endorsed claims by far-right influencer Matt Walsh that Harris advanced her career through relationships rather than merit. Rep Tim Burchett (TN) further fueled the debate by labeling Harris as "a [Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion] hire," with GOP critics suggesting her success is due more to her gender and race than her political skills.

Matt Walsh claims Kamala Harris used personal relationships to advance her career

Far-right social media influencer Matt Walsh further fueled the fire with a provocative and tasteless post on X, alleging that Harris "got her start in politics by sleeping with Willie Brown" and accusing her of leveraging her gender and race to advance her career.

Walsh's post concluded with the baseless claim that Harris' rise to prominence was a result of "begging for handouts from powerful men," branding her as "a thoroughly unimpressive human being."

In response, Dr Naomi Wolf, a veteran author and journalist, criticized the sexist undertones of Walsh's remarks. She argued that such comments would alienate female swing voters and hurt the GOP’s broader appeal.

"This kind of sexist take from Republican men will not play well," Wolf warned. "Swing voters who are women are up for grabs, and ‘she slept her way to the top’ just repels many women and is not an argument."

Megyn Kelly backs Matt Walsh's critique of Kamala Harris

Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly joined the fray, siding with Walsh and dismissing Wolf's critique. Kelly argued that Harris' alleged path to power through personal relationships rather than merit is relevant and fair game.

"Disagree. She actually did sleep her way into and upwards in California politics and most women (and men) may learn that and see it for what it is: evidence of an unqualified political aspirant getting ahead based on smthg other than merit. It’s relevant, and fair game," Kelly claimed.

The debate took another turn when journalist Justin Baragona highlighted a contradiction in Kelly’s stance.

Baragona recalled Kelly’s 2016 memoir, where she expressed frustration over rumors that she had advanced in her career through an affair.

"I hated that people might think I was getting ahead by sleeping my way to the top," Kelly had written about the speculation surrounding her career. Baragona’s comment pointed out the irony of Kelly now engaging in similar "slut-shaming" against Harris.

Megyn Kelly ripped over shaming over Kamala Harris

Since Kamala Harris's name is now in the contention for being president, trolls and Republicans have taken to making quite unsubstantiated and tasteless claims intending to mock her.

However, the claims from Kelly and Walsh have certainly rubbed Harris's supporters the wrong way as they lost no time in slamming the false and derogatory narrative.

A social media user tweeted, "Oh the irony of Megyn writing that, does she not remember the rumours about HER rise at Fox?"

Another said, "Just remember folks, every allegation is an admission."

"And @megynkelly will be remembered for enabling misogyny and only getting a job because some misogynistic men thought they could watch her on mute. Never For her qualifications," read a tweet.

"It’s because she’s rumored to have had an affair with Brit Hume at Fox News," asserted a user.

"That’s probably what Megyn Kelly did herself," remarked an individual.

"What a sexist statement, so women can't get ahead in life without sexual favors? I'm guessing, Megyn Kelly has slept with a helluva of men," stated an individual.
